3 clanrats, all with ratling guns
3 warlock engineer, one with storm daemon
plague monks to hold a flank
This list seems to be dominating the grand prix's, can it really be beaten?
sure it can, it's difficult but it can be done. also depends alot on who is fielding it. first turn and/or some terrain to hide behind is gonna help though
Since i play a khemri army if i see something like this i shake my head, place my entire army out of sight and pop up scorpions/swarms and do as much damage as possible hopefully getting a minor victory or draw if the scorpions dont do much.
With most armies you can just hide and play for a draw, at worst its a boring game, but thats what people get for taking a boring 'I WIN' army.
Most of all a draw isnt the end of the world at a GT. Also you may notice certain skaven players have a tactical draw in their results on the first day for a slightly easier start on the second.
Hopefully the 3 1 0 points system will help take some of these armies out of the running, people will play for a draw and eventually we will see less and less of this kind of force.
I certainly wouldn't feel proud lifting a trophy having won with that kind of army, but maybe thats just me.
EDIT: You forgot the warp scroll
EDIT 2: Also the organisers seemed to match up skaven armies against each other on the top tables last year. That'll teach em.

I just played my first skaven army this weekend, managed to massacre a list a lot like the one posted above. I play brets, and his shooting was lethal to my screening units of KE, but my 2nd line tore into the rats and mananged to destroy them. He only had two ratling guns, and I was partly saved by one of them self destructing on a stand and shoot reaction.
Granted brets ward save was the only thing that saved me besides lots of small units of knight in two lines. He also did not advance at all and on turn two backed up to his table edge to try and delay the charge. Once his rats failed a morale test they ran off the board...
My opponent also had horrible spell casting- he had two miscasts and failed to cast a number of target 9 warp lightnings (he did manage to get a few off).

Not sure about your opponents tactics there:wacko: , but agreed that if one army is going to beat the hordes then it will be the brets.Originally Posted by Waaaghboss

Well I believe his problem was he used no tactics- other than shoot a lot w/ warp lightning. I used tactics (as much as I can other than the ol' bret stand by of run ahead and charge).
He also for some reason was afraid of my peasant bowmen. He spent turn one and two trying to destroy my unit of 20 with warp lightning and shooting... crazy, but saved a lot of my knights from dying!
his troops moved forward on turn one, then backwards to the table edge on turn two... crazy.
I believe he was stunned that his shooting and magic didn't destroy any of my units before they reached his lines (even my KE units that started with 6 remained steadfast with 2 and 3 each!). He also had a warp lightning cannon.
He had two ratling guns, 2 units of 5 jezzaels, a grey seer, a bunch of other magic (he had no CC champions, they were all wizards) as well as 3 units of Rats- not sure what kind but two units of 20 + a unit of 30 with 3+ save and the big bell O doom.
My Pegasus knights saved the day with a flank charge combined with a charge from a unit of KOR- they then overran into the first unit of Jezzaels, killed them as well!
