ok well ive brand new to warhammer, fantasy in perticular and table top gaming all together!!! I have alreayd made the decision to go with fantays rather than 40k and now i have been looking for the right army. I have been kind of reading up just browsing around and all but i dont know any of the real tech. issues with either army. Ok well after thinking a long long time over this i have narrowed it down to 3ish choices, hordes of chaos, WE, or dwarf.
Ok well i know im a beginner and you will probably suggest for a beginner to use a easy and stron race like dwarves...well the only reason they are one of my choices are becuase of this and i realy dont fancy them to much.
Now on to chaos..i realy dont know much about this army gameplay type realy but i kind of like them alot and they seem pretty interesting and as a god i would choose nurgle just so you know.(i realy like the minis, i think i do atleast)
And lastly the woodelves...hmm...yes yes i know they are pretty hard to play with and are recommended for experianced players and what not.....but from what i have read about the quickness and out flanking ness IDK its pretty cool.
I realy need help with my choice for my army...so please help...oh and just in case you were going to suggest it...i refuse to play empire..no matter how beginner freindly they are and versitile.
also as a side note...umm ok i have around 500 USD now will this be anough money to buy the respective fantasy rulebook, the army i choose's codex, a decent size army among most players standards(how many points will i be able to have around) and the paint to paint them...
Wow, you've picked three very different armies to consider.
A Chaos Nurgle force would be fun to play. I've played against an all-Nurgle army, and it's always tough. Demons and Chaos Warriors/Knights are solid in combat and nasty to deal with, but they lack any shooting whatsoever. Your strong phases would be combat and magic.
WEs are a weird army to play. It's my main army right now (VC is shelved), and I really enjoy it. Lots of good shooting, some good combatants, and an interesting style of play as I rely on mobility and maneuvering. The forest spirits add heavy hitters and variety to the list. Magic is weak, though.
Dwarfs tend to come in two flavours: infantry with shooting and super-shooty. I haven't met the Dwarf player yet who forgoes any shooting. Instead some Dwarf armies will have a fair amount of foot troops and shooting units, while others will have a minimum of infantry and lots of shooting. They're not very mobile and don't have an offensive magic phase at all.
I guess one question to ask is how important is each phase to you? Movement, magic, shooting, and combat?
Welcome to LO NOODL3! =) May I suggest that you have a look at the spellchecker LO provides? Or alternatively the Google task bar has a very good one on it (that's the one I use). It only takes a nanosecond to click "check post" and it makes your posts so much easier to read. Thanks =)
Onto your armies. Dwarfs have the pick up and play factor. No lightly armoured, fast troops to worry about. All you got is a solid shooting phase, rock hard infantry, and a sound magic defence.
I don't know much about WE, only that they hurt - a lot! ;_;
Chaos are probably the most versatile army available to you, they have about ten billion unit choices and army compositions. Usually you'll find they have quite expensive troops and characters, but this is balanced out by the ridiculously under priced war hounds and marauders
Whichever army you choose, let us know how you get on, and have fun =)
thanks alot, i have been asking this same qeustion on other forums and i have pretty much got the same answer from everyone, thank you. Now all i have to do is just pick which one i want and i will be on ly way...thank you agian-NOODL3
@Stonehambey- yes i know about the speel check, and im sorry for not utilizing that as an option, i will try to use it after every post form now on.....but sorry again it was very late and i wasn't thinking to much about that.
