My question is, what army can really beat the snot out of those T3 elves. They are definetly my worst nightmare. They are fast, have good shooting, and the magic is decent. WE have all those high Toughness trees, Dark Elves have nice monsters and some cool special options, and the High Elves have nice cavalry and 3 rank spearmen. So what army/armies lay the smack down on this dasterdly trio. With their only weaknesses being high point cost and low toughness(except tree spirits) what armies best exploit those weaknesses? post your thoughts on which army and maybe even some nice tactics with them. Posts are greatly appreciated .
Which army do you play atm?
I'll admit this is kind of avoiding the question, but really any army if played well has the potential to beat any other army. It really depends on the generals and of course the dice gods.
The tactics you use are probably more important than the army you play, and not to metion that changing strategies is much cheaper than changing army!
Thou shalt remember:
Warhammer Fantasy armies do NOT have Codices. They have Army Books.

I agree with Ancalagon.
But, as a fairly good Dark Elf player, I would have to say Dwarves are a tough nut to crack. With a little luck in the shooting rolls, thunderers, quarellers & war machines chew up T3 elves with ease. (same for Empire, except they are weaker than dwarves in the other aspects).
And T3 characters have a REALLY hard time killing tooled up Dwarf characters who are ridiculously good (T5, possible 1+ re-rollable save, rune of swiftness etc).
Not to mention the free extra dispel dice which negates one of the Elves most notable advantages..magic.
(on the flip side, if the shooting doesnt go well and the elves reach the dwarves reletively unharmed, with skill & some luck its easy to slaughter the slow units with flank attacks, and just avoid the nasty characters, or break the units they are in before they fight back more than once)
Generally speaking, Elves arent good against Elves. Most Elf vs Elf battles are a blood bath, with the winner usually only having a few surviving units.
I think armies like Tomb Kings & Ogres, which rely heavily on Fear causing, tend to struggle against Elves due to their good Leadership stats.
Bretonnians are hard to kill with weak attacks against 2+ saves. But Elves have the ability to match their speed with light cavalry & hit their vulnerable & long flanks.
Brets will totally smash any Elven unit they charge, but find themselves in vulnerable positions afterwards. Its a good match up.
Chaos units & characters are superior to Elven units & hard to deal with, but the Elves will normally outnumber them. It can go either way depending on skill & of course, a little luck.
Dont have enough experience against other armies to comment.
Basically if the guy standing over the elves has learned how to use them properly, he will most likely hand your ass to you on a platter, no matter what army or style you play. :shifty:
On the other hand, if he is a rookie and still learning, and/or just plain cant master the Elves style, then youll have some easy T3 pickings.

Not necessarily. All armies, when used properly, can beat any other army. The notion that a skilled elf player will beat a player equally skilled at another army is a false one.Originally Posted by Manu_Forti
ok drunken armadillo I know you want to beat me very badly because i am always owning you in our battles lol.so i think it would be best if i just tell you what army i would hate to play, and that would be a dwarven gunline. I would have to scramble like a madman to get to you corner of the board and then i would have to kill like 2 units of warriors just to get to your warmachines/rows of thunderers or i could try to land some harpies behind you lines and try to kill you warmachine crew. So if your really that desperate to beat me go for the gunline, but if you would rather have a fun game than i would go for something that isnt screaming chesee, like a normal chaos army or a normal HE army, or even a normal dwarf army that isnt super shooty(yes i know shoot and war machines are one of the powers of a dwarven force, but use in moderation)
A few things to add. First off, its not always the army lists that decide the game but more times than not I find its the players running said army. Now, I'm not saying that you are a poor general or that your friend is Patten reincarnated. I'm saying you may not be able to strike at his weaknesses as well as you would like to/need to. A suggestion I have for this is sometime ask him if after a game he would be willing to trade armies. Playing his army may give you a better idea of the strengths and weaknesses of it, allowing you to attack it better when you play him again.
Also to answer your question, a dwarven gunline would likely be effective against elves. They can outshoot elves and also go a long way towards shutting down the magic of the elves.
