Welcome to Librarium Online!
My friend has just recently converted me (and another friend) to Warhammer fantasy (was previously a 40k player). And i have been trying to thing of which army to collect. I would like an army which:
Is fairly fast: I also collect dark eldar so i know how much speed can be an asset in the game. I would really like to still incorporate that aspect into my tactics.
Has decent magic: Something which is not in 40k and seems like fun to play with.
Good modeling options: I am a modeler more then a painter (and player) and usually can't put together a model with out hacking it apart and/or adding stuff to it.
So far from what i have seen i am looking at:
Dark elves: Fast, and i could use some non-futuristic bits from my dark eldar
Lizardmen: Come on who doesn't love dinosaurs, (skink heavy)
Beastmen: Fast with ambush rules, and chaos always has modeling options.
Any other sugestions will be welcomed
I guess another one might be Skaven they are faster than Lizardmen have pretty decent magic.
If u want speed i wouldn't do Lizardmen if i were you. They are faster than dwarves but who isn't. But On The otherhand their magic is supreme.
The Old Ones have not forgotten me!
There's this idea that Lizardmen are somehow a slow army, but don't believe it. Saurus move 4 inches, yes, but everything else moves 6, with flyers and cavalry on top of that.
Lizardmen have fine speed.

There is one problem with skaven, the friend that got me into fantasy already has an army of both skaven and vampire counts so i really didn't want to collect either of those army's. The other friends getting into fantasy are looking at Wood elves and Orcs & Gobos. So I really don't want to have a repeat of my 40k group which consisted of me(dark eldar) Vs 1 necrons and 5 space marines.
I would defiantly look into dark elves if i were you, their magic is quite good, they are fast,(5" or more for every unit in the army) and they have a good number of conversion options since they don't get models for their noble/highborn or a decent model for a sorceress on a mount. So don't hesitate to come over the the DE forum if you want any help:yes:
I find that you should choose an army based on what they look like since you will be painting, building, and looking at them all the time. Also another thing to think about is the kind of play style you like. Skaven are large in numbers and have some great war machines and magic, but your gonna be weak in close combat and have no shooting besides the Ratling Guns. While the Dwarves are low in numbers, have great war machines, some of the best shooting and will almost never run(Leadership 9!!!).
What play style do you like? and have you decided on any armies you dont want to play?
That would make it easier to help you out
Well since i am still yet to play a game i really don't know my style yet. Although in 40 K i would favor speedy and sneaky tactics rather then brute force.
I would not really like to collect one of the army's my friend collects or an army one of the guys starting with me is about to start. That rules out:
- Vampire Counts
- Wood Elves
- Orcs & Gobbos
I don't realy like the look and/or feel of the following
- The Empire
- Ogre Kingdoms
At the moment I think i'm leaning towards dark elves with Lizardmen coming 2nd
Don't forget about Tomb Kings. Tactically they are more demanding than most armies (they are up there with the Elves in that catogory). Also, they are a very, very strong magical army, although it is a supporting style of magic and not an "I'm going to nuke your ass off the board" type magic. Due to the nature of their magic though, it is extrememly hard for someone to completely shut your magic phase down. Also, fear can be a wonderful thing. And finally, their models are some of the best in the game in my opinion.
