Okay I really want to make an Army of Cathay but I cant decide which list to use.
For the Models I will be using Easterling from the LOTR model lines.
I am thinking of using Empire because their List and Cathay are very similar (gunpowder troops, vast armies, elite troops).
If i go with Empire I will use the Easterling with Bows for HandGunners. on the End of the Arrows I will put Sacks (packed with gun powder).... Think of the Part in "Army of Darkness" when the undead attack. you guys think this would be a good Idea?
Tau 12/1/3 (3000 pts)
IG 4/1/0 (2500 pts)
SM 3/1/0 (1500 pts)
CSM 1/0/1 (1500 pts)(W/D/L )
There is one under the US Games Workshop website. THey used the Brettonian army list. All of the models highly converted, and the army simply looks amazing. Very well themed and designed. Warhammer - Bretonnians
I converted the Paymaster body guard weapons to Chia-do's. I used duellist as Ninja. I used the Cannon and just said it was packed with Fire works. I used Crossbows as archers, I just took the legs of riders and mounted them in the air with green stuff so it looked as if my archers were laying on the ground and pulling the bows back with their legs. (As seen in one of the martial arts movies right now, I just can't place it. Fast Cav was converted with green stuff. Plus I took chess pieces of Japan's dynasty and painted them like stone using them as Living Stone Ogres. Lastly, I took my warriors and converted them to have Katanna's and cloaks.
The army worked well, I used it on several ocassions and sold it on ebay.
But I would recommend DOW as the army to base them on.
you can't really use LoTR models as they are quite a bit smaller (they won't look right next to WHFB models)
I'd say use the empire-models and bretonnian rules. The empire models are all wearing skintight pyjamas, so they're easy to convert to look like anything else!
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.
Voor alle nederlanders:
The Dutch Legion
Sorry about the late post, but there is some stuff on my mind that I have to remove.
The Easterlings are actually illegal (combining Intellectual Property or something like that, LOTR and Warhammer aren't allowed unfortunately), and I can vouch for the fact that I don't like them. My LOTR force was Easterlings for a while, and their parts aren't convertable enough. Pretty cool looking, but a testament to GWs... what's the word... well, they went from the usual 24 models in a box to 20, and still claimed that the sprue was crammed full of goodies.
I've just had an idea. Why don't we make our own rules for Cathay on LO, as a user article? Like the WE Tactica. We could convert our own figures and make up new units and that. Any interest?
although im not sure if im qualified for that kinda of thing, i would still love to help.
Do you know how the WE Tactica worked? Loads of people posted little snippets of info and we combined them to make one huge (10+ pages) article.
So, even if all you do is make up rules for a basic unit, then that's something .
I think a brainstorming thread is a good idea. Sorry Aknor for hijacking your thread. Perhaps we should take this to the Rules Dev. forum.
