I am about to start my second fantasy army after my first Wood Elves reached 2,000pts.
Here I am struggling in choosing my next army... :x I have a couple choices:
Dark Elves, Ogres, Skaven, or Empire.
I know what each army's strenghs and weaknesses are, and I've played alot of games against them with my Wood Elves. The reason that I can't decide is because all of them are so much fun to play with
Which army is the least popular of the above mentioned four armies?
it all depends on what style you want ur army to have:yes:
"Like frenzied beasts, they was. But I tell you, there was never a sweeter sound than the howls of the Wulfen that night."
Sgt. Pridman, veteran of the Tlax slaughter
I know full well that Skaven excel in number/shooting/some magic, while dark elf is a very aggressive/manuaverable army. To be honest, I love both, that's also why I am having trouble choosing either one :x I'll have both eventually, but right now my budget only allows one, and I am hoping that you guys could just toss in your vote on which army YOU would play. Like I said, I am very casual and I play with what I get, and I'll still have loads of fun
If I was you I'd pick the ogre kingdoms. Theyre a really cool army and they dont have very many units which could be a bad thing, I guess, depending on the army size you want. But it also means you can spend more time painting and modelling on each miniature to make them just the way you want instead of having to paint hundreds of miniatures.
Ive just got my ogres book and a battalion and have started to paint so Im not sure how they play exactly but according to what people say on LO they seem very fun to play with.
Fun to play with but if they arent played correctly hard to win with so youll either win big or lose big.
Well thats my opinion.
Hope it helped
My vote would go for either Empire or Ogres for the following reasons:
Ive just been putting together an empire army myself and the amount of troops types you can get in plastic is immense! this makes empire very affordable- plus as they are a spanking new army a lot of the new minis are very nice indeed. You can also go to town on the paint schemes, making up your own livery etc They are also fun to play as the army list allows for lots of different playstyles
Ogres are an army ive considered for a long time myself- the minis are great and i love the idea of an army made up of hulking ogres! the only thing thats put me off is the fact that a lot of the minis seem to be multi-part metals which are a particular bane of mine!
PLAN CLAN MAN!!
He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man- S. Johnson
Well here are my two cents:
I don't like the idea of scaven much so I would say don't go with them them :-P. Next, a friend of mine plays OK and they are a pretty cool army with cool models. Empire seems to have lots of cool things and it is the most like the core "human" idea. I really like the fact that you can make your whole are look together with a cool paint scheme since they all are wearing uniforms! Only problem is that I've heard that this is a VERY common army. I've only ever played against one guy with empire but if truely that many people play empire...well it is kinda like well I don't want to be like everyone else. :w00t: So my vote is DE or OK.
Armies: Wood Elves, High Elves
Warbands Campaign 07: 1st
San Antonio Alamo GT
i think OK would probably be the most different from your wood elves, a nice change of pace with much less shooting and tough powerful models rather than those flimsy elves however you would again be having a few very expensive models in an army, i might stay away from DE because i believe they're due for an update sometime next year....if its me i woudltn want to buy and paint a bunch of old models if there are new very beautiful ones in the works (i think the quality of GW's models recently has improved IMMENSELY...look at wood elves, ogre kingdoms, new empire...can wait for HE). Empire and skaven would be different with lots of cheap block units plus some fun, kinda random shooty things.... I really dont think you can go wrong with any of the choices, just decide if you want a radically different playing style than you have now or if you want to stay with the same sort of thing
I would go with the most different play-style of the group. Dark Elves are too similar to Wood Elves in my opinion...not so much in play style but I would get bored of playing with the same stat line and overpriced infantry.
Empire is alright, but bores me personally. It will look nice on the table, but you will still have to suffer with T3 and low armour saves.
Ogres get you into the big guys with the nice feeling of having a T4, but they seem to be most effective actually in small maneuverable units, which is strangely close to Wood Elves.
My vote would be Skaven because you cant get much more different in play style. Big blocks of models, crazy almost-independents. Plus you get to model some dirty nasty stuff after all of those fairies.
But in the end I would advise borrowing the books for all of the armies you listed, playing a few games each with proxies, and seeing which you like most.
Staunch supporter of rigid Moderation.
i would go with DE because the models are all very cool and are fun to paint, other then
that they are a very nice army that has a lot of underutilized strengnths. if you need more info you should go to the DE form and ask around, its pretty active(not as active as the WE one but sitill its active lol)
