Hello all. I'm looking to get in to WM after playing 40k for some time now. I got to looking at all them models, and thought it would be really cool if I could get an army of only the Pirate Mercenaries. However, since I'm not that familiar with this new game, I have two questions. First, is an All Merc army legal? Second, is it any good? Is there any chance of winning with it, or is starting this army guaranteed to make me go winless?

Helo The Doctor, Yes, all merc lists are lega., and very viable. I've never faced an all pirate force, but it sounds like a lot of fun! There are two members in the gaming group I play with that plays mercs. Both are really good. One of them is an all "dwarf" list using Durgen Madhammer. I've never faced this list personally, but watched it run, its good but tough to play. The second list is very competative: He uses Ashlynn d'Elise a Mule warjack(REALLY NASTY)(sometimes 2) 3 Ogryn bokors Steelheads cutthroats. and maybe one other thing I can't remember at 500pts. This list is NASTY. I don't know the specifics of the pirate warcaster(s) so couldn't direct you there. I'd like to know how it goes though.

I'm not sure of the points yet, but here's a tentative list I've made, from talking to other players. I'm not sure what the 'standard' army size is for my area, so I also want to check on that before making a list. Warcasters Fiona the Black and either Capt. Phinneus Shae or Bartolo Montador, aka Broadsides Bart for my second. Solos Trade around between the few Pirates. I especially like Doc Killingsworth and Bloody Bradigan Units Commodore Cannon & Crew and use Sea Dogs, maybe Mr. Walls to fill out my points. Warjacks Freebooter Heavy Warjack And a mix of Mariner and Buccaneer Warjacks (I need to read up on them more).

Fiona has some very nasty abilities from what I've heard and should serve as a strong candidate for warcaster, though Shae is just cool. Standard WM games tend to be around 500 points, with 350 being one of the minimum points levels (on average, that's roughly what the starter sets are worth). Games above 500 points tend to be considered "large" games, 750-1000 is around the equivalent of a 2000 point 40k match. You can't take more than one warcaster at anything less than 750 points, so on a per game basis you'll be choosing one warcaster to run with. Oh yeah; I also have Prime: Remix, so you're welcome to come over and check out the rules. Let me know if you get some models and the likes, I'd love to start getting more into learning the game; maybe I'll have to start up Cygnar just so I can learn WM, as I'm not sure how well I'd learn Hordes vs. a WM opponent primarily, but I'll see. |
