Well, ive considered getting into this game, but im still not sure if i will yet. So, to help me make up my mind, i've started looking at the merc units available, just to see if there's any coherent groups other then the Pirates. I've noticed within the troops that there's: Trolls Risen Cutthroats Dwarves Pirates Army Regulars Nyss So far, the Cutthroats, Army regulars, and Devil Dogs look interesting to me, but i have no idea which kind of a Warcaster i should / could use with them. As in, Abilities, or even thematically. I was considering something along the lines of like. Magnus the Warlord (WarCaster) Devil Dogs Croe's Cutthroats And for those, im primarially taking them due to simply liking how they look, and the feeling that thematically, they'd fit well. But Besides that, is there any way to get an idea of what would work without buying the rulebooks / Card sets? |

So are you looking to build an all merc force or are you curious as to what mercs will work for what factions? From an all merc list analysis you can pretty much build what you want, not sure if they force you for tournaments to go with a mercanary contract or not though. Magnus is the most shady/evil of the merc casters but he can be a lot of fun. Both magnus and epic magnus are pretty good casters the fund with magnus is his custom build warjacks which give him some extra flavor. His renegade warjack is the most popular in terms of play value. Definatly if you go with magnus then croes cutthroats will go well with him, their advanced deployment and stealth along with poison arrows make pretty decent unit. At least one Bokur is a must with any merc army, assign him to magnus or w/e caster you take can be very effective. Another good unit not in your list are steelhead halbrediers they have reach and their defensive strike(think its called that) can be very usefull. |

Yeah. I was hoping to build an all Merc Force. Something based along the lines of a maruading army lead by Magnus. From your discriptions, i should go with something like: Magnus the Warlord (WarCaster) Steelhead Halberdiers Croe's Cutthroats Renegade Warjack (Unsure on how many.) Ogrun Bokur (to attach to Magnus) Correct? Also, question i would raise is, how effective would said force be if Steelhead's were replaced with the Devil's Dogs? And for 500 points, how would i build that? |

As for army building try this to help you build a list index I don't have much experience with devil dogs they are geared more towards immobilizing enemy jacks where as steelheads are good against infantry. That would be a decent force, but maybe think about picking up some merc solos like eyiress or gorman. |
