Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was wondering for peoples thoughts on a maruader based celtic themed army.... I usually play lizardmen and have a all mounted chaos second army and thought that it might be a cool idea... The only down side is having to paint so many maruaders lol.
Well here is my list:
Merlin (chaos sorcerer) Lvl 2, power familar
20x Marauders (Lt arm, sh, FC)
Should come to 491 by my calculations... The chariot, while not the best choice per say, is going to be a really cool converstion i think. I am going to have it pulled by warhounds with a custom chariot being driven by marauders.
Also any thoughts on how many blocks to add when i expand or any general comments about the concept... Thanks!!!
Could look very sweet. But come on Merlin is going to have to be a lvl 4 :-)
Could be very cool to put him on a two headed dragon, but I think it would have to be some sort of elf dragon conversion.
of coarse he is going to be a level 4 but it is only a 500 pt army lol... I was thinking about putting him on a dragon or just bringing the chaos dragon and finding an old name for a dragon in celtic lore....
Yes, I think celtic themed army would be great.
Are you going to convert marauders to have kilts? (Braveheart, Braveheart, Freedom, Yeah!!!). 8X
At some stage I tried to convert a space marine to have a kilt, It took a lot of putty, but then I thought it's a stupid idea, to have an environmentally sealed armor and bare ass. Marauders in kilts should look great.
i have made a marauder force it sits about a nice 2000pts now and it has 2 marauder chariots, they do look cool, i converted a lood to ride one with a hand holding a thin chain leading from the horses mouths and its just such a cool model,
using marauders in small games to and in larger really gives a chaos army the empasis on the term they use 'horde' and its funny watching you bring out 4units of 30marauders on to the field coz ur opponent is just shocked at how many there are!!
gotta love those marauders!!!8X
20 Marauders is a lot?? you should try painting skellies for an undead army...
Anyway, with the Concept, i think its quite a cool idea. And to be honest, i think if you have good Conversion ideas then you should show them off on the tabletop. Chariots can be really good though, so dont dismiss it as poor too easily.
i know i have painted about 120 marauders and it is a bit of a mission, i do play alot, mostly against empire skaven dark elves and dwarfs so i know how well a marauder army is guna do, just watch out for fast cavelry coz they can be a pain, if they get a flank charge in and make your low leadership unit break quite fast
I'm all about having a Barbarian themed Hordes of Chaos force. Its just no one plays Fantasy around here anymore .
What I would do is maybe not go nuts on conversions with kilts, but just make them Barbarian like. My legions worship Tzeentch for a big part of the blue coloring (and I love birds.). I use hawk turquoise colored face paint. It looks like Celtic woad face paint, woad was the plant I think they got their blue paint from. I personally think the maruaders look barbarian enough alone.
Use one strong group of warriors kind of as Vikings if you are just going for a broad Barbarian look.
If you want to keep a British theme Id go for Tzeentch, you can make quite a Merlin with the magic of change. Also the colors will fit. Also no knights, go for all chariots!!!
Did I mention I love your idea? I swear I'm just going to wake up one day and buy a full Hordes of Chaos army regardless of who I play just so I can paint a cool army up.
