I've recently started playing warhammer fantasy battle, and chose chaos as my starting force. I'm looking for some guidance in making some 500 point warband rule lists for some fun games me and my friends are playing.
My friends play the following armies and still also be using 500 point purchases: Dwarves, Wood Elves, and Bretonians.
I was wondering if I could get some help in designing some 500 point lists, each unique to the opponents race. Namely a 500 point list to use against each of my friends, or perhaps if anyone has a suggestion for a solid all-around list that does well against all list that would be great too.
Haha, I hope they don't frequent these forums, else they will be aware of my list beforehand.
Well Id recommend some knights and marauder horsemen. They hit hard and move fast. Against dwarves it will help you reduce the turns hey are gonna be able to shoot you, it will take away his manuvering and movement advantage with wood elves, and it will help you not take charges all day against brets.
Thanks for the swift reply sdefreit,
So your saying a cavalry based army would be most effective against all 3 races? How will the marauder horsemen fair, I know the knights are a brick house at such a low point level, but I'm a bit worried that for the points the horsemen are just going to fall dead.
Are warhounds for screening worth getting at such a low point level, and how would an infantry based army fare against the 3 races.
Oh, and is magic even worth thinking about at the 500 point level?
Update: Need help with 750 point lists, our campaign organized decided to change the point value since no battles have been fought yet.
-Power Familiar and BoS
Marauder horsemen- 105
Marauder horsemen- 105
This could be a solid base. Its 596 points. With the rest you can do a number of different things. I was thinking another marauder missile and one unit of dogs, or just get lots of dogs to fill the rest. Chariot possibly too.
Naked knights? Is it worth giving them a standard bearer and musician, or maybe a banner of some sort?
Also I'm guessing the sorceror is going with the knights, do I need to outfit him to win challenges?
So against wood elves I would think the extra dogs would be helpful to screen in front of the cavalry to ensure I don't get pelted with arrows in no mans land. Though I'm worried that the dogs being shot down will cause my knights to run away, perhaps give the knights MoK too?
Against dwarves should I keep the sorc? I hear they have really good anti-magic defence, should I perhaps switch him out with an exalted hero when fighting the bearded men? With dwarves being less inclined to move around, is a cavalry army still worth using?
Against bretonians... I'm not sure what to do, I think they are a cavalry based army too? Will ours be stronger?
