Hi there folks,
Have being a fan for over 6 months and i finally found the guts (or the time) to start posting.
I will have a 2000 pts tournament next thursday here in Brazil and I will most likely face a Lizzards army with 3-4 Stegs and at least 2 engine of gods. They bite REALLY hard, the priest on top f it does some nasty magic and the rest of the army is made of skinks and some saurons - i have no idea where to start. the other guys i will most likely face are Wood Elfs, High elves, Dark Elves, Orks and Maybe Dwarfs
I thought to go hard on melee and take a couple full units that can stand the charge of the dinos but the impact hits + the US alliied to the weak Leadership will probably torn me apart. We dont have many ranged options besides the Hellcannon AND I dont know if he is hard enought. A Giant might take the hit but is too much of a risk, hard on magic, risky but maybe the best options.
bottom line i'm open to suggestions - i have a descent colection of minis missing only Trolls and Ogres so i might be able to put together even the craziest army to try it out!
thanks in advance
Hey man, like you i am quite new to this forum and i too am quite new to WoC but my philosophy is that if there are players who are going to powerplay i'd say you powerplay in return.
I don't know if you are allowed to but a good answer to the steggies would be Kolek Suneater. He is big, he is tough, he hits hard and he does multiple wounds.
There is a way of playing a whole dragon ogres army with kolek, 2 shaggots, 3 units of marauders to fill core choices and 3 units of 3 dragon ogres all equipped with GW. The great disadvantage is that you do not get any magic protection. I have not posted this army list to see what people think about it so i probably think we will be getting replies very soon.
A second option would be a lord with the hellfire sword (so that you do multiple wounds), MoS and mounted on a steed of slaaneesh for high speed and mobility with a helm of may eyes to make him strike first. Other hero chaoices can either be 2 level 1's carrying 4 scrolls mounted on chariots to give them hard hitting power.
You might recieve better advice from other players however i tried to give you a tip to get you started.
Hope it helps
Nurgle knights eat up stegadons. You'll just have to worry about their no armor save thing though. You're faster and got a ton of attacks, charge the EotG and throw all your attacks at the priest. The stegadon will need 5s to hit you and you'll still have a 4+ armor save if he does wound you. They also work good against wood elfs. They're fast enough to catch the bastards and got a good enough armor save and toughness 4 to make their shooting very ineffective. On top of that they do magical attacks so his forest spirits won't be getting any ward saves.
I dont know what you others think but would a unit of 12 chosen MoN with full command with the champion given a glaive of putrefaction and Joined by a Bsb with Banner of the gods be effective in this case?
I know it is a lot of points but the unit is tough and contains an unpleasant surprise I know that the chances of hitting and wounding with the champion are limited but if he does the stegadon or the challenged hero will be as good as dead.
Chosen would be able to do it for sure I think. I think knights are a stronger choice for hunting the stegs though because they get Str 5 attacks with a 1+ save. Chosen can have Str 5 or 6 but will be dropped to a 4+ save before modification. Also chosen are slower so if hes smart he can probably limit the time those chosen see his stegs.
It can work and is a good idea but I think knights are more reliable for taking these buggers down.
great tips guys
thanks a lot
so I'll make something around 3 sorcs (general + 2lvl2s) 2 units of knights (what weapons?), 2 of warriors and fill the rest with marauders and dogs.
should i take any particular items or rares in consideration?
one more time thanks and I'll post the list later today for critics
As far as the engine and the stegs I found a group of 5-6 knights with an exalted in there to be very effective in taking them down. Exalted equiped with BSB, collar of khorne for the 2 magic resistance for all the knights is very nice against slann. Challenge the skink with your exalted and watch him die pretty easily.
Always take the ensorcered weapons with knights. Str5 magical attacks is much better than str6 on the charge. Specially if you aren't practiced enough in getting the charge. Also there are plenty of times its perfectly acceptable to let them charge your knights.
I totally agree with pinkus, besides ensorcelled cost less and are more effective against enemies such as forest spirits, ethereal units etc.
Other units u could use in your army are the MoS horsemen. These babies can make a couple of opponents swear by slowing their armies down!
thanks again guys for the help.
I indeed faced the lizzies. Long story short:
Lizzes were 4 squad of skinks, 2 saurons 3 stegs, 2 with priests and 1 with mezamundi or something like that.
I went: 2 nurgle 5x knights, 2 10x warriors, 1 slaneesh, 1 vanilla, 1 DP with homonculus + couple other toys, 2 sorcs lv 2 one with power familiar other with book of secrets and a couple other things
5 hounds and 5 horsemen with MoS
Draw after 6 bloody rounds. I ended the game with 835 points he had left JUST one Steg no crew and 1 Sauron which gave him half the unit, the table quarter (steg US 5) and my two banners total 632 points.
I found magic VERY usefull against the stegs, the knights held them for 2 turns but were easily bitten with some UNBELIVABLE effects of 2 engine of the gods walking side by side. The DP and the sorc with disc performed great, dogs and horsemen did ok, warriors took too much from impact hits and ended up breaking and dead but did fine.
Magic were trully the greatest thing on the table. The lore of Tzeench is GREAT the Nurgle one maybe i did not now how to use it but pnly did ok besides pandemonium which is AWESOME against magic armies!
I might take out the horsemen and make the warriors a 12 unit and take something else to add one or two more riders to the knights, that would've made them more resilient.
besides that it was a hell of a game, the guy were a pro and that was my 3 game with WOC so i guess i did ok!
if you have suggestions saturday is the re-match!
