Ok guys this is the list Im currently using and Im really liking it. I love the chosen/warrior models and I have a lot of them. For a 2k game I think Im packing a good amount of troups number wise, and there isnt an easy unit in my army (excluding doggies). Im running a heavy magic phase too. 10 PD and a bound spell is pretty rough imo. I know Im a rather slow army but I try to make up for it with my horsemen/dogs and my disk man. Plus I am probably the only WoC that doesnt like the knight models so thats another reason they arent making an appearance here.
One think Id really like comments on is my banner choice on one of my warrior units. The one with Rapturous Standard. Now I have to say this thing is nice but Im debating makeing it a Warbanner instead. The +1 combat res helps give me staying power as well as helps me to break the enemy. So which you guys like more? The defensive power of Rapturous or the hybrid use of the Warbanner?
Thats all for my list but I thought Id share a little part of my game earlier today that I used this list on.
Well first off I am still fairly new as far as fielding this army is concerned. Being the rookie I am I acctually forgot to deploy my M horsemen. In the middle of my first movement phase I saw them in my box and had an OH F$%@ moment. But luckily my opponent was nice and let me deploy them. To make it fair I put them on the back edge of my deployment zone in the middle and didnt move them the first turn. But aside from my stupidity these guys were my MVPs. In turn 5 they rear flanked the Ogre King Death star which consisted of 15 ogres and included two characters. I charged, they fled, and I cut them down. Just wanted to share that since it was pretty cool that they single handedly killed that massive unit. But anywhoo heres my list.
Sorcerer Lord- 425
-MoT and Disk
-BoS and Power Familiar
10 Chosen- 275
-hand weapon, shield and GW
12 Warriors- 257
-Hand weapon, shield and halberd
-Banner of Rage
12 Warriors- 252
-Hand weapon, shield and halberd
12 Warriors- 277
-Hand weapon, shield and halberd
-Banner of Wrath
5 Marauder Horsemen- 110
Looks like a solid list. I would like to fit in a BSB there though, could really help your slow units out.
A BSB on disc with flail and shield works wonders for me.
I like the list it seems fairly solid and spawns protect flanks?
The only comment is i think chosen are a tiny bit bum fir their points cos there basicly chaos warriors and if they get a rubbish gift they are basicly really expensive chaos warriors
Thats only my opinion tho
And bsb on discs are amazing
cruise missiles are legends thats y that happened
I prefer the raptours standard just because of my personal experiences where holding would have won me the game and rolling a double 3 when i needed a 5 in a torny really doesn't help
BSB's are always welcomed. I like the list, I hate the banner of wrath. You could turn a warrior unit into 12 khorne marauders with great weapons and a BSB on horse with a shield. That costs 246 points. You could drop a unit of dogs and make that marauder unit 18 strong.
However, I think this is a good list.
Ya Im mainly using the spawns for flank protectors. I love these guys. They look cool and people who dont know the WoC list too well acctually pay a lot of attention to them. Im ok with my enemy feeling threatened by some throw away units.
And I wasnt completely sure about banner of wrath at first, but it has acctually been pretty good. It has given me a few surprises. Its has knocked off a few guys in a number of turns, and it is nice for chewing up a few DD sometimes. Ive been impressed, but maybe ive just been getting lucky.
And ya the chosen unit would probably be better if turned into another 12 man warrior unit. I just love the models and it would be hard not to put them on the table. Plus their roll adds some flavor to the game. I got the stubborn/Ward save my first game with em and that was fun. But ya for the most part Id say 12 warriors>10 chosen, but I can afford a little bit of diversion from picking the best point for point units.
I like the BsB idea. A disk BsB can really help me on failing an unlucky break test roll. And if thats not enough he can also pop chariots which makes him golden since those chariots are kind of rough agaisnt us imo.
Idk if Ill acctually do it because its been looking hard the little bit Ive tried, but how you guys want me to get those points? A disk BsB with shield/flail will run me 174 points. Its a great idea imo, but I think it might spread me a little thin to get him in.
I think chosen are worth it. 2 less models, sire, but a tremendous upside. Anything that helps their close combat power is welcomed. MR3 could be very nice. +1 leadership boosts them over your generals, so that's nice. Getting down to a 1+ armor save in combat is always fun. "Yes they're WS6, str4 t4, with 2 attacks a piece and have a 1+ armor save" I love clarifying things like that. If you're on the receiving end of chosen that have had anything signifcant boosted, you feel like 19 points is not enough.
Look at them over swordmasters.
We lose always strike first. Gain toughness and armor save, as well as the ability to carry different weapons and marks AND get a random buff every game.
Ya chosen are great. They were really good in my games today. I beat a HE guy twice. I gotta say that army has some nasty magic and swordsmasters are tough, but not tough enough. My 1+ save chosen beat some up and a warrior unit took on a spear unit and a swordsman unit at once and beat them and cut them both down after the third round of combat.
One thing I have been noticing is that my heavy infantry really can take a while to cross the board and I dont have a whole lot to threaten him at range other than my magic. Ive been running my warriors/chosen close together so they guard each others flank at the start, but Im having trouble geting four units close together with terrain and all. I had a warrior unit in the left flank that didnt do squat. Im debating dropping the Banner of Wrath unit for some knights so I can have a big threat unit that can move fast. And Pinkus I think your right about banner of wrath. Its nice for sure, but 45 points of nice? That Im not sure about.
Im thinking about a straight swap. Take out the 12 man banner of wrath unit for this. Knights arent my favorite but I can deal with dropping a warrior unit for one if I can make my movement phase a little more enjoyable.
And maybe a Warbanner so I can take on units in the front easily.
You can't go wrong with knights using the Warbanner and musician. That +1CR always seems to make me win or draw combats (especially when I have only 1 or 2 knights left). I would suggest adding MoS for an enhanced reliability.
If I may, I would like to add my two cents here to your list.
Have you ever thought about a hellcanon (instead of spawns)? I am trying several heavy infantry list and that Hellcanon always seems like a great idea to compensate for my slow movement.
I know everyone loves their disk flying infernal Sorcerer Lord but... what about a foot slogging Tzeentch Sorc. Lord using the Bloodskull Pendant, Spell Familiar, Enchanted Shield and Collar of Khorne. That guy could fit in any Chaos Warrior unit and he usually has 2-3 nasty S8 KB hits, a 1+Sv / 5+Ward and will most likely have Infernal Gateway!
My only concern with throwing a gateway sorc into a unit is all the miscasts that do damage to every model around him with no armor save. Beyond that, it could work. If you're magic is messing people up, they'll have to engage that unit, which is what you want anyways.
Knights have never ever ever let me down. But marking them slaanesh is just wrong. You already reroll panic checks, you're immune to fear and you only take fear checks against terror. You actually get very little out of that mark.
Well thanks for the input dapredator66. I probably wont do the foot lord though. Having him on a disk is just too good in my opinion. He can be anywhere and he cant be bogged down in combat. I believe he can still cast gateway in combat but having him untouchable is just too good. I won my second game yesterday mainly because of his point deial and ONE trump gateway on my enemy's lord.
And Pinkus Im really beggining to fully understand how great that point denial concept is. My guy isnt a DP but hes still 425+100 that they wont get 9 out of 10 games.
A Hellcannon? Hmm...I may play test that. Ill be playing the HE guy again next week and after losing two in a row hes gonna hit me with something even harder next time. He wants to try out a stardragon list and then also a magic list with 8 levels instead of 6. I may try one out because it has interested me. I gotta figure out what to drop though. Those Spawns have been amazing for me.
But ya I will definitelly try out that knight unit. Im honestly not impressed with the marks for knights because MoS is crap, MoN isnt worth it in my opinion. MoK is possible but for an all comers list I dont want to lose control of that big unit to an army with some bowmen and and mobile units. MoT is possible but probably not.
