So i've been looking at using a nurgle daemon prince. I have two armies written up and am yet to try. Here are the rough ideas
Nurgle daemon prince w/ roar, diabolic edict, fury blood god, lvl 2
Wizard nurgle lvl 1 steed scroll
Wizard nurgle lvl 1 scroll
BSB with doom totem, shield, flail, steed
16 Warrior block w/ shield,halberd, FC, Banner rage (6x3)
14 Warrior block w/ shield, halberd, FC, Rapturous Standard (5x3)
5 Nurgle knightsw/ music
Daemon Prince Nurgle w/ Tendrils, fury blood god, roar, lvl 4
Wizard nurgle lvl 2 steed scroll
Wizard nurgle lvl 2 scroll
E Hero BSB nurgle w/ glaive, bronze armour, flail, shield
16 Warrior block w/ shield,halberd, FC, Banner rage (6x3)
13 Warrior block w/ shield, halberd, FC, Rapturous Standard (5x3)
M Horsemen w/ Flails
5 nurgle knights w/ music
The idea with the first army is that i terror bomb them at -2 ld and cause panic tests with hellcannon at -2 ld. In the magic phase i cast 3 buboes a turn, i figure this will nullify most scroll caddies as scrolling buboes isnt very effective and some will get through. Additionally armies that rely on dispel dice, lets say seven dispel dice, will still have a decent chance of letting a buboes off a turn. Additionally not too much magic points is invested in this army. Eventually they engage my big warrior blocks/ Unit with Banner of Rage has BSB in it, making it have a high static combat res, and also very dirty either offensively or defensively.
Army 2 is similar but won't cause panic and terror tests at -2 ld. Instead it will have 2 spawns protecting one flank in place of a hellcannon but will be strong in the magic phase.
Let me know what you guys think as I am eager to try a nurgle daemon prince. If anyone has experience using one i am curious to hear about it. Also let me know if you think these armies have any potential as I want to eventually make one tournament worthy.
It seems not many people use this daemon princes? Ive used army 1 against my brothers oldblood dino army, 2 ancient stegs and carnosaur. Tough matchup but i managed a draw in my favor by 7.5 pts.
Unit of the match:
Warrior unit with rapturous standard and BSB in it. Took a charge from kroxigor skink unit and ancient steg in the rear, and carnosaur charge in the front, and held because of rapturous standard. Next turn I slaughtered the skinks and won combat by 1, after which the stegadon failed ld 6 test and fled into my other warrior block, and the krox unit fled also. Gotta love rapturous standard with a bsb nearby.
Hellcannon- Scored 2 hits on the ancient stegs, but rolled ones to wound both times. Other then that it just scattered off. His total for shooting was killing one skink out of the kroxigor unit. These guys are so bang or bust, but i got pretty unlucky with them.
Magic: worked like a charm, 3 buboes a turn is strong. First turn i burned two scrolls, thanks to some good rolling.
And finally the prince: Did well, roar on knights is strong, then if you kill enough to panic them at -2 ld and they run its beautiful. Mine ended up dying from skinks shots after chasing down a unit, however he rolled very well. MoN really helps protect him from shooting, and bloodgod fury protects from spells.
Now im going to try the magic heavy daemon prince army
Hi there mate, nice lists i will try to suggest a coupke of ideas from my experience with a nurgle demon prince. I will only comment on the first list.
First of all to answer your question: Yes Nurgle Daemon lists are very playable
Now to begin:
Dont judge hellcannons by their shooting abilities. They will rarely if ever do anything just by shooting. Use it as a cc monster. Wait till you fail that rampage or to misfire and rampage because it is there that you will see the real worth of a hellcannon.
As for the demon prince I would not use your build. A nurgle demon prince sould b given the mantle of chaos, With a couple of decent rolls skink non poison shots would not be able to wound him as will almost any other shooting in warhammer.
A question i would like to ask you is what exactly is diablic edict? is it diabolic splendour or something like that?
Another thing i would change is the BsB. It is not worth going terror bombing with chaos especially when the top tier armies are itp. I think it is better if you pump up your magic phase. Get a Book of secrets and and a powerfamiliar and make those wizards level 2. ( i see you did this in ur second list. I think it is much better choice than the first. I would however remove that 4th hero and try to include a second unit of knights.)
The rest of the army looks solid so i wont comment anything on it.
I think that is about it. Hope u fins my comments useful
Hey thanks Draag.
I meant diabolic splendor my bad.
Also about the hellcannon, I usually place it on the flank of my warrior blocks and engage anything that comes near. It works like a charm, warriors really need that unbreakable unit, however i begin to wonder if a giant wouldn't suit my purposes better.
For 75 points im not liking mantle of chaos very much. Its just way too spendy imo. I would much rather just play careful and spend the points elsewhere.
I think my magic based army is stronger then the panic/terror bomb army. With daemons and VC and such it could be completely useless. And as I generally try to build a well rounded army i will probably cut army 1.
I forgot to put I had book of secrets on one of those wizards in army 2. I look forward to trying out that army!
