Warbands Campaign, starting at 200 points

My friends and I will be starting up a small warbands campaign which will start off at 200 points, and can increase and decrease as you take casualties and recruit new troops.

I could be facing off against Empire, Beast of Chaos, Wood Elves, Dwarves or Lizardmen depending on which of my friends decide to join the campaign and which army they will be fielding.

At the moment I'm unsure what kind of army would stand the best chance at such a low point level. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would be looking at 2 units or marauder horse that's about all you could get at that point level.

    Something like
5 Marauder Horse, MoS, Lt Armour, flails.champion, muso
5 Marauder Horse, MoS, Lt Armour, flails, muso

I have a feeling that that may be 200 or a little over may need to charge the flails or spears on a unit.

Magic tends to be pretty strong in warband games given the limit on heroes. (150 points max)

I'd use level 1 sorcerer with mark of tzeentch, book of secrets and bloodcurdling roar for exactly 150pts.
Take flickering fire and roll Lore of Death, if you don't get Steal Soul or Wind of Death, take Hand of Death.
    Use two dice each spell.

That's three multi-hitting ranged attacks (including Bloodcurdling Roar).
Dangerous in a 200pt game. No?

    Welcome to LO

In Warbands you need to take a minimum 2 units of core and you have to have a unit champion at least as the leader

I thought that you could make the sorcerer your general. Also, you could take 2 groups of 3 maruaders making it only 24 points to meet the 2 core unit requirements.

Correct me if I am wrong though, I do not have the official rules for warbands and am only going by what my gaming group taught me. I'm also very new to fantasy.

The minimum unit size for marauders is 10.

which would be 80 points with no upgrades leaving enough points for a naked lvl 2 sorcerer

It may work thats half your army in a single model that would on average only get a single spell off a turn.

In my version you have two units that can charge turn 2 have a 5+ save and have S5 Attacks on the charge.

Still going to suffer against shooting which is the bane of Chaos anyway.

I was told that in a Warbands game, the minimum size for units with models having a 20mm or 25mm base is 3 instead of the regular sizes in the armybooks.

You are probably right about that sorcerer though. Losing him would mean losing most of your army. Maybe in a bigger warbands game...

in 500 pt warbands, i always run a Sorc with MoT, Disc and book of secrets. 150 points on the dot, and has 4 powerdice to cast two spells, which most warbands can't stop really.

My apologies 3 models do count as minimum size.

Shame really as that changes it from warbands to herohammer.

So do you think it would be worth starting a 200 point warband with the same sorcerer?
