Long time reader, yet first time post...
I've played a few games in 8th and love versitile lists, not geared towards a particular foe. Though I have to say that in my gaming group there's alot of love for High Elves, Dark Elves, and Skaven. That is except me! I've found these battles very challenging to say the least!
If you guys could give me some input on this list, negative or positive, it would be appreciated. Hopefully its competitive and versitile:
Sorc Lord - MoT - lvl4 - Disc, Charmed Shield, Blood of Tzeentch, Golden Eye of Tzeentch, Conjoined Homunculus
Exalted - MoT - BsB - Shield, Book of Secrets, Power Familiar
5x Marauder Horsemen - MoK - Flails
18x Chaos Warriors - MoT - Shields, Standard, Musician, Blasted Standard
30x Marauders - MoK - Great Weapons, Standard, Musician
5x Chaos Knights - Lances, Standard, Musician, Banner of Eternal Flame
18x Chosen - MoT - F/C - Halberds, Favour, Wailing Banner
2500 pts even
I have played before with a unit of 6 trolls, but found them to be a bit unwieldy. I'll screen my Lord with the four for obvious reasons and in return they can use his Ld, while he casts away. Kind of like a vanguard. I think four will also serve nicely as support.
The Lord has all the Tzeentchy-goodies to make a half decent magic phase and the BsB provides a backup, maybe taking lore of shadow.
The BsB would go with the Chosen.
The Horsemen can hunt war machines, the warriors are hard as nails, the marauders are looking to win combat by attrition, the knights can threaten flanks, monsters and hunt war machines, the chosen will be durable heavy hitters, the warshrine buffs those in combat, and the Hellcannon does what it does.

Looks like a really good list. I think the lances on the knights are a bad idea - they are awesome with their enchanted weapons and can grind down units nicely. Why not give them MoK for extra thump power with the points saved from the lances/flame? Or were you thinking of a direct counter against Hydra? Seems a bit too focused IMO.
Trolls are awesome when they aren't fighting flaming attacks. I agree, six is a bit too tempting for an enemy to directly counter.
Are you sure you don't want to spend a measly 18 points to get each your chosen a shield? By saving just one of them during a shooting attack it will have paid for itself, and you have the option of using sword/shield parry if you need it.
Horsemen with throwing spears/light-armour would give you more tactical options, MoK and normal attacks will probably be enough to wreck a war-machine anyway. Against Dark Elves they will probably die first turn though.
Sona si Latine loqueris.
Once in combat you have to use a special weapon over a shield, so you don't get to choose between that and a halberd, but I'll agree, the cheapness to give a +1 armor save against shooting/magic is way too good to overlook.
I don't know how BSB's like this work out. To me I run a BSB that has a 2+ armor 3+ ward and str6 attacks, when I see something like this I tend to think jack of all trades but master of none. Its a great build to be honest. A BSB that gives your LV4 +1 PD. But with a 3+ armor 5+ parry, he will die easily to a lot of elite troops(thinking swordmasters/blackguard).
Also, keep your lances at home and have a better unit for it and save points.
Also, not saying this is a better option, but you could try flails on your marauder block. Having 40 attacks at str5 and int4 should scare a lot of people. However, since you play a lot of Elfs, the GWs probably would be just as good.
Thanks for responding and the input!
The idea with the knights was to kill any big monsters or units with regen. But for the exact same points I can remove the lances and banner and replace it with the Banner of Rage. More attacks could be nice.
The BsB I was hoping would be protected from the results of the EotG rolls. That could conceivably grant him and the chosen a 3+ward save. The wailing banner is there to help re-rolling and they have a very good chance of getting an extra attack or 4+ward/stubborn on their initial roll. But maybe I can find some points for the shields to help in the mean-time if things don't pan out as planned.
Your chosen are fine. Expensive as all hell, but fine. Their initial roll to start the game will NOT affect characters in the unit though.
Alright, then I have two builds I'm looking at for the bsb then:
Exalted bsb MoT - Shield, Bronze Armour of Zhrakk, Talisman of Endurance, Ironcurse Icon
3+AS, 4+ Ward, Immune to KB, poison, and psych
Exatled bsb MoT - Shield, Talisman of Preservation, Ironcurse Icon
3+AS, 3+ Ward
What ya think?
I like the second BSB build better. I used a BSB with the book of secrets. You roll 1 die on the miscast table and more often then not you blow up and take a few warriors with you. <Unless you have Infernal puppet, but you will still get hosed more often than not.>
Leave the regular marauders at home and bulk up on marauder horsemen ( unless you don't have the models).
5000 pts of WoC, 5000 pts of Orcs and now 3000 pts of Ogres...What was I thinking ????
