Ok, I have a 5000 point match (I know it's huge, but we feel like an obnoxiously large battle) against a friend on Sunday. He is going to either run his Orcs and Goblins, or maybe is Demons. Anyways, this is the list I cobbled together. I am somewhat limited by the models that I have available to me, and everything is being run as is. Where I could use your guys help is with banners, magic equipment, marks, and maybe shifting unit sizes some. Anyways, here goes:
Sorcerer lvl 4: Heavens
Power Familiar, Talisman of Preservation, Ironcurse Icon, Diabolic Splendor (Looking to cause panic tests with Comet)
Sorcerer lvl4: Death
Dragon Helm, Puppet, Talisman of Endurance, Homunculus
Chaos Lord of Nurgle (general)
Steed, Shield, Rune Sword, Book of Secrets (Shadow), Dispel Scroll, Distendible Maw (rides with knights to eat people and punch monsters)
XHW, Banner of the Gods, Stream of Corruption (Stubborn holds my center, he and festus go in the XHW unit)
40 Warriors of Tzeentch
Shields, FC, rapturous Standard (if he goes demons, he has a lot of stuff to mess with leadership and can very well beat me with his baddies. Sorc Lords go here)
10 Marauder Cav of Khorne (Hunts warmachines, flamers, lone characters, etc)
4 units of 5 Warhounds
52 Marauders of Slaanesh
Great Weapons, Standard and Musician
25 Warriors of Nurgle
XHW, FC, Banner of Rage
5 Dragon Ogres
Great Weapons, Champion
2 Hell cannons
14 Knights of Tzeentch
Standard and Musician, Blasted Standard (General Here)
Both of us are players that hate to pull punches, so especially when we play each other, we try to murder one another. My idea with Magic to hammer him with Comet and maybe purple Sun till we are in combat, then use Soulblight to weaken most of his army and beat him in combat, while using Doom and Darkness to help ensure that his units break/crumble faster. The Dragon Ogres and go monster hunting or character sniping, with the Marauder Cav pulling the same duty as well as looking for Warmachines and finishing weakened units. The Knights start on a flank and roll down down his lines, with the Lord hopefully eating a couple characters along the way (I have never used Maw before and am looking forward to it). Scylla is in because I had some points left and he can hold up an enemy block to hopefully clog his lines some, because with the board this crowded, the winner could well be decided by who can respond and relocate based on how combats are going.
I also have a Valkia model, a Warshrine, 10 more Warhounds, about another 15 Sword and Board warriors, a Disk character, and an assortment of characters on foot (both combat and sorcerer). The obvious change to the list to me would be to find the points to make the XHW Warriors Chosen and to add the Warshrine, but I don't know where to go for those points.
As an aside, my opponent likes big, hefty blocks. It was as a bit of a gag, but in the last match we had at 2000 points he brought a block of 89 Savage Big Uns
Anyways, have at it guys!
Doom & Darkness is going to be great against orcs and demons, watch out for the Demon BSB it will **** up your day with your lores, i cant remember that standard
Drop your ogres for your warshrine and chosen points, give your chosen champ the favor and the terror banner since you like to go hard against this guy
Favor lets you modify the roll, Eye of the gods chart 2 (reroll), 3 (Modify to 2 - reroll), 4 Modify to up or down by one or take it all 3 selections are decent - i'd take the +1 toughness till you can get em to combat then war shrine em again, 5 again modify up or down for a good effect, 6 modify to 7 reroll, 7 reroll 8 reroll 9 reroll 11 - modify to 12
For big games, I'd suggest either Lore of Death or Shadows for magical firepower, mindrazor Frenzy/AHW warriors is priceless.
Valkia can make a real difference in a big steadfast-formation marauder block, able to shut down giant blocks of bloodletters or choppa orcs.
If you have the extra warriors you could go MoK/Halberds/Banner of Swiftness = good flanking unit.

Well, I played my game to day, and while it was fantastically enjoyable, I did suffer a defeat by about 800 points or so. The only changes I made to the above list were swap the Lore of Heavens for the Lore of Shadow and some minor gear adjustments. My opponent ran his Demons. End of the game I had the Chaos Lord, 4 Knights, and 5 dogs, while he had a wounded Blood Thirster, 2 Flesh Hounds, a beat up horde of Blood Letters, and most of a block of Plague Bearers. At the top of the "memorable moments" list is my very first shot of the game with a Hell Cannon, I misfired and forced every wizard on the table to Miscast. With the help of the Puppet, this combo killed off the lvl Keeper of Secrets (general), lvl 1 Herald of Nurgle BSB, the Blue Scribes, and the Loremaster Shadow Herald. Partly because of this, and partly because I consistently rolled low for winds of Magic, magic played a relatively small part of this game. His Hordes of Bloodletters proved to be epicly nasty, as one of those, with a rear charge from his Thirster, slowly ground through my 40 man horde of Tzeentch Warriors. However, this block spent over half the game, with at times up to a -6 leadership modifier because of Doom and Darkness and the Masque, grinding through and eventually destroying the Blood Letters, and wounding the Thirster. The Knights proved very capable and were grinders without peer and ground through a horde of Letters over the last several turns, even while flanked by 5 Flesh Hounds. They never lost a combat. There were several ties, but they never lost one.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable game versus a skilled opponent. If I hadn't gotten lucky with that first turn miscast it would have been a very different game and I would have been rolled relatively quickly, but it was great fun. Next week we are probably going to play a 4000 point Storm of Magic game (my first). I'm thinking of a list not dissimilar to that above, just trimmed back by dropping probably the Knights and a few other trimmings, turn the XHW Warriors into Chosen, and then take a lvl 4 Zoat to get access to the Lore of Life. I'll very likely be back with a storm of Magic list in the next few days.
