ok so this is probably a really basic WoC list. about what every player i face will be expecting. but i have 1 main question. is the bunker too valuable a unit? youll see what i mean when you read the list.
sorc lord 360
level 4 shadow
talisman of preservation
i figure shadow and nurgle will pair up well... withering of enfeebling paired with CotL could take out a whole unit in 1 phase if i dont get dispelled.
exalted hero 189
collar of khorne
mark of tzeentch
i figure if i get anything other than "rot, glorious rot" ill trade it for "magnificent buboes". only other spell i think would be worth taking is maybe "fleshy abundance", however the only units that would really benefit would be the knights and the marauders. problem is the marauders will likely be on the other side of my bsb bunker, and the knights, if theyre on a flank, will be moving too fast and will push out of range. idk... its theory crafting i guess. ive used festus alot but ive allways traded for the sig spell.
16 warriors 334
my bunker unit... my bsb and lord will be joining these warriors. this is where i see my biggest issue. the unit as a whole is worth 1108 VP if im right... general cost+100, bsb cost+100, unit cost+standard. thats one valuable unit. im thinking its going to be the target of about everything my opponent can throw at it. i mean... its got my general/sorc and my bsb/best melee. is this just one unit that is doomed to eat every arrow, bolt, cannonball, spell, and bullet on the field? is it protected enough to take that kind of punishment? 4+vs shooting, 4+vs magic(MR2), 5+parry... if you cant tell, im very concerned.
17 warriors 359
festus goes here. lots and lots of s5 poisoned flaming attacks and a 5+ regen save. outta do pretty well unless they eat alot of flaming, and even then, theyre warriors of chaos! i considered MoN and a banner of rage but i really wanted to try the banner of eternal flame.
50 marauders 282
5 dogs xx
5 dogs xx
6 knights 315
too much for 1 unit of knights? i was thinking a flank charger with lots of combat resolution. ive formerly used a unit of 5 with the same upgrades and my bsb in the unit to good effect. however without the extra combat res from the battle standard, and the exalted hero's attacks they might not fair as well. what do we all think? and no telling me to drop them! i like knights, theyre fun.
i dont think i need a mark. do i need a mark? ive got spare points i suppose.
well thats the gist of it. ive never bunkered my bsb and my general up together before. it concerns me that their unit will just take too much attention. i figure i could use the extra points for some neat gifts, or maybe even trim a few points and include marauder horsemen. ive been wanting to try a unit of marauder horsemen with light armour AND shields and use them as medium cav... im not sure how theyd do, probably poorly, but i think theyd have a nitch.
I love shadow lords with festus, it's one of my favorite character compositions that we can take. Ive run my bsb and lord together a few times, and never had much of a problem, just don't put them in a position where bad things can happen I like the list as a whole, but I feel there are a lot of points invested into the knights considering what they're going to be used for. I've never been a fan of marauder horseman in this edition, but if you want to try them, go ahead and give them a whirl, see what you think of them.
with the horsemen i was always put off by the fact that they are so flimsy. and with how the rulebook seems to say that taking light armour and shields (and losing fast cav) is such a horrible thing i never really considered doing it, i even have recommended against it before. i just have a feeling that they might do ok if used as a medium cav unit... something like cheap knights. i mean, 13 points per is some of the most inexpensive cav in any army book. i think i might give it a try. with alittle finesse i might be able to make it work for me.
Well they're WS4..I believe, pretty decent armor save, but you would have to run them khorne with flails to do decent damage with them. Not sure what that all costs, but is it really better than a naked unit of 5 chaos knights, they have the same number of attacks, better WS, better armor save, I just don't know. It does make me want to play test them to see how well they perform.
yeah i was actually thinking something like...
12-18 horsemen 240-336
id probably stick to 12, but 18 might prove to give them the survivability theyd need to actually be effective.
also ive considered using throwing axes or javelins, tho the ultra short range deters me a bit. i think its just the appeal of a cav heavy army, tho i do have my doubts about it being competitive.
20 points for +1 to my ward save on my one shrine doesnt seem all that worthwhile. its already got T6 a 4+armour and a 4+ ward...i have the points for it... but that does seem like alittle much.
My list I usually don't have anything better to do with 20 points that's actually worth while so I end up taking the mark just to hold up the biggest hitting unit/model on the table for a round or two while the Halberd warriors catch up. I have terrible die rolls so the 3s save me more than most too lol
