Welcome to Librarium Online!
I finally have 2,000pts of WoC to play with (unfortunately still unpainted) and I'm playing my first games at a friendly tourney at a local shop this Saturday. I'm thinking of running the following list:
Lvl 4 Sorc
Mark of Tzeentch
Collar of Khorne
17 Warriors w/ shields and Mark of Tzeentch, FC (sorc bunker)
18 Warriors w/ shields and Mark of Tzeentch, musician+standard
40 Marauders, Great weapons, Mark of Khorne, FC
2 x 5 warhounds
5 x Chaos Knights
puts me at 1498.
Not a whole lot of spice in that list, but I'm somewhat limited on models - before I start buying fancy stuff I want to get a few games in to see what works and what I like. For feedback I'm basically wondering if I'm missing something important, or if should tweek anything (banners, wargear, split lvl4 to 2 heroes, etc.)
I know there will be skaven and dwarves and orcs at the tourney. Thanks for your comments in advance.
That was very useful. Thanks.
After reading the forum for months I'm not surprised the list looks like something that would be recommended here.
One question - I thought my level 4 was well protected with (a) collar of khorne + tzeentch gives a 5++, and magic (2) so if I understand the rules correctly that gives him a 3++ against magic attacks. So... against magic he has 3++, against shooting he has 2+ look out sir and 4+ 5++, and in melee he has a unit champ to take the heat and his 4+ 5++ in a worst case scenario. I thought this would be enough.
For lore I think I'm going death to snipe targets, maybe shadow to help the troops.
Just back from the tournament and had a blast. Here's the summary:
Game 1 - Lizardmen lvl4 slann priest with cupped hands, 2 blocks of saurus, 2 units of skinks and 2 units of single salamanders. I was destroyed here, As my first game playing fantasy EVER my opponent wasn't the best player to play against, didn't tell stuff about his list, let me make super stupid mistakes, plus he interpreted the rules wrong once in his favor by accident. I understand it was a tourney, but it was a $10 tourney, wasn't expecting someone to be so cutthroat about it. I was doing just fine until he Irresistible Force cast lightning speed and time warp on his saurus blocks after I overran his skinks into them, then they ripped apart my marauder horde while salamanders whittled down my warriors. It's a tough and versatile army to play against at 1500, plus those two spells turn the sauras' biggest weaknesses into their biggest strengths (OP imo). My dogs did nothing, I wasted time with knights chasing skinks and I wasted magic trying to hurt the slann which had a 2++ against magic (I only found out about that after he let me cast into him). It was a massacre.
Game 2 - Dwarves, grudge thrower, 2 cannons, 2 organ guns and 3 blocks of 16 or so dwarves. He took down around 30% of my army before I made it to him but my warrior blocks got in close and looked like I was going to do destroy him, then I start rolling 1s and he started making all his 6++ saves (truly ridiculous rolls) and his dwarves wiped out my warriors. the marauder horde made it to one end, taking out 1 block of dwarves an organ gun then the lord cast (death) purple sun down his gun line taking out 2 warmachines. it ended up a small victory for him. This was an awesome game because the guy I played was super cool, went out of his way to explain rules and was just an all around good guy. Very enjoyable game.
Game 3 - Woodelves, this army needs an update badly. he had a treeman, some 65pt tree guys, some branch guys, a little bit of shooting, fast cav and a super underwhelming lvl4. I ended up massacring him, not even sure how. The only unit he had that did well was his treeman. I also think he made one really big mistake charging me instead of waiting for me to charge. Really nice guy, felt bad for him.
Lessons learned -
1. warhounds were a waste of points, should've spent the points on a blasted standard. They redirected 1 charge, otherwise they did nothing. By the time they got to warmachines everyone was in combat already.
2. Going to try flails on marauders. None of the combats they were in lasted more than 1 round. With t3 and no armor save you either go big or go home.
There were a lot of learning points but those were the two big takeaways for me.
