So playing a tournament at the end of the month and im going to try using my troll horde but split into MSU style. The tourney is going to have a mix of regular and Storm of magic games so a wizard is necessary, as well we will be able to use our 500pts of bindings in the regular games.
Sorcerer Lord, General, Level 4, Mark of Tzeentch, Disc of Tzeentch, charmed shield, power familiar, talisman of preservation, third eye of Tzeentch
Exalted Hero, BSB, Mark of Tzeentch, Shield, Disc of tzeentch, golden eye of tzeentch, book of secrets (fire), stream of corruption
5 x Trolls
3 x Trolls
3 x Trolls
3 x Trolls
3 x Trolls
Scrolls of Binding:
Giant spined Chaos Beast of Slaanesh (ASF)
Hydra, Envenomed fangs, Spit Venom
Play tested it twice so far vs dark elves and it did very well, the MSU trolls make it very difficult to get focused by flaming attacks and cuts the losses down a lot compared to when i ran them in horde formation. The Spiny Chaos beast is...well...A Beast! he really rocks. I actually really like the spit venom for the Hydra instead of the breath weapon. I have a lot of hitting power in the army but minimal shooting and hte spit venom is 5 str 5 auto hits each shooting phase (well until hes wounded of course!)
Everything but the two disc riders have regeneration, the sorc lord is pretty beefy, and as the general can run around outside throggs 12" leadership bubble to pick up any stray troll units. very useful!

Your BSB is a little squishy out there, if you're going BoS maybe get a golden eye of tzeentch instead of the sword? I can see him taking 2 arrows to the face in round 1.
I'd love to see a troll horde in action. Take some pictures! Post your results after the tournament, I think it's great when people get feedback and then report back what worked and what didn't.
Looks good. I'd probably run the trolls in units of 4 (2x2)....... Anyway, that's just me.
Right, The BSB is very squishy. I know you will have a 3+ Ward on the Fulcrum but you have to get there first. In normal games he's going to stick out like a sore thumb and have no protection. Swap the Magic sword for the Golden Eye and you should be alright.
Try out some Cygors. Any enemy wizard within 24" has to take a LD test. If he fails then any spell he fails to cast is a miscast. Plus they can act as a stone thrower........ which can move and fire. Move AND fire!!! They're not shoddy in a fight either.
Yeah BSB got killed pretty quick in my second game, golden eye is my usual item and i think i will take your suggestion and change it out.
I ran my troll horde 6x3 in another tournament and it did alright. The glaring weakness being fire. In the four games i played in the last tournament i wtfpwned in 2 of them and got wtfpwned in the other 2 so a record of 50/50 isn't so bad! the first game i lost bad to two direct hits from pit of shades, and the other i was ruined by flaming attacks from a herald of khorne followed by the rest of the bloodletter horde!
My logic behind this list with the units of 3 is that there can only be so many units with flaming attacks. Everyone has access to the banner and perhaps 1-2 other items that give flaming, so at the very most you could remove the regen off of 3 units. and even then they are all seperated and its still 9 wounds to get rid of them. this will insulate the trolls from mass damage caused by flaming. My plan is to get multiple charges into single enemy units and smash through. The hellcannons are amazing at holding the flanks and the Chaos Beast and Hydra are even better.
