Hi all I'm looking for some help with a list for my league. I need to build a 1000 pt. list with the following rules, and as of right now against unknown army's.
Have an extra model in your army for your opponent to use if needed.
Before rolling for sides roll off for roles. The winner gets to pick
Defender places extra model with a core unit, and needs to defend it.
Attacker must break or wipe out the unit with "The Trooper"
Who ever completes their mission gets the bonus point.
I'm thinking of having a good size unit of worriers both to bunker and or destroy. I'm just not sure if I should go with MoT with board and sword and play it safe, or go with the Mok with the halberd. For Support I'm thinking a shadow sorcerer of some sort, I feel that it will help support both the defending, and the attacking unit. I Know both worrier units are solid in there own right, but I don't think I can take both, and not be overrun by being out numbered. I am just looking for some in put on the unit(s), and what I can use for support.
And yes this is scenario is inspired by iron maiden if anyone was wondering.

What does this model do? Is it a 'free' model in a unit or what exactly?
Well, you need 3 units in your army but, by only taking one Core unit it will limit your opponents in where they can stick him. It'll also prevent them from sticking 'Mr Important' in a sucky unit of Dogs or other easy kill units. It'll also mean you can plan a list around protecting said unit. So, a Nice big unit of Warriors with some support units. Maybe a Shrine or Hell Cannon and a Special unit of some Variety?
Something like this maybe?
LVL2 Sorcerer, MoT, Blood of Tzeentch, Charmed shield, Iron Curse Icon, 3rd eye
18 Warriors, MoT, Banner of Rage, Cmd, Halberds, Shields.
5 Knights [XXX]
Hell Cannon [XXX]
The Warriors are pretty nails and killy so will be a tough match to kill in combat. A 3+ Sv and a 6+ Ward makes them pretty hard to kill with shooting and a 5+ Ward will keep you safe-ish against Warmachines. The Hell Cannon and Knights give you some fast hard hitters too.
Yes it is a free model that dose nothing, but take up space. As for placing him the winner of the roll gets to pick weather they want to attack or defend. The defender places the free model in a core unit of his choice. I do like the warrior build that you have for both rolls, but I need to keep in mind that the free model is a bonus point on top of standard victory point game. Also I don't own a hell cannon, and I'm a poor college student so I cant afford one at this time, but I do have a shrine.
Sounds like a good scenerio this, your a armed guard escourting someone and are protecting him against some attacking warband
Personally Id play this that you have to get him off the table at the far edge
Id stick the character in a unit of warriors with smaller units to protect it, like knights and warhounds
I agree it will be a fun game. I tried something completely off the wall at 1000 pts. mostly for fun, but also to try something new and see how it worked.
sorcerer lord spell fam. heavens
18 warriors standard mus halberds rage banner
46 marauders FC khorne GW
Didn't expect much out of this list, and played a TK army with a very experienced general and I ended up tabling him by turn 4. I'm thinking about using this a frame, and adjusting it depending on who I have to play. Any Thoughts on it, I know that the spawns are an odd choice, but they are cheep and in the last game they absorbed 60 shots from his archers that could of went into the warriors or marauders.
At work so cant check the points cost, but if spawns are taking that much flack, maybe they are a decent alternative to the usual Warhound cannon fodder most people run
That looks a decent list, not sure Id take such a large unit of Marauders but they are hard to stop in that setup
spawns are 55 pts. a peace, but they offer a T5 they are unbreakable plus you don't get a charge reaction to them. The biggest problem that I have with them is the fact that they have random movement. I have had a plane spawn move 3", and I have also had Scylla book it 17". They are to unpredictable to count on holding a flank, but the fact that they can draw so much fire power away from my foot troops makes them use full. I'm thinking about running a few games with them, and seeing how they work before I make my final choice on them. your thoughts on them?
As for the marauders I'm thinking about using them as the bunker if I end up with the trooper. and if I don't defend use them to draw the attention of everything else. That way I can send my warriors on a hunt kill mission for the trooper. What would you use in there place if you were playing this mission?

Can see the appeal but if I was facing not sure Id shoot at them instead of the units.
But random army choices sometimes work better because people dont expect it or know how to deal with it
HAHA that's my thought no one ever uses them anymore so everyone has forgot how much they suck, and they just look scary so they get shot up as a result, allowing for my troops to walk up the field in one piece. However when they do come through they can really mess up a gun line or war machines if they are not taken care of. The biggest problem army's for me are the range based ones I'm still learning how to play against them. The 20 to 30 wide marauder shield is a new concept yet, and I have not employed it yet, but it is the next thing that I am going to try.
