Hi, I am totally new to Warhammer fantasy and I want to start playing this cool game .I have no experience at all and I need some help building a 800pts list for a Escalation league. I recently purchased these figures:
1 Warriors Of Chaos Battalion
+1 box Warriors of Chaos Regiment
+ 1 box Chaos Marauders
1 Nurgle sorcerer
1 Nurgle lord
I really like the Nurgle lord model and would like to use him in a list. Is it totally worthless to play with a lord? Have been looking at different list and it seems that many players us Sorcerer Lord with the Mark of Tzeentch. Is nurgle a bad choice?
Excuse my bad English and I am grateful for all the help I can get.

Well let me be the first to welcome you not only to the forum, but the game. Let me say by no means am I an expert (they will comment latter), but I might be able to help a bit. Not sure if your up to speed with the rules of the game, but in regards to your lord choice. You allowed 25% of your over all army point cost, and with the Chaos lord naked point cost of 210 you can't take one till you play a minimum point level of 840, and that is with no up grads or marks. You really do not see these guys till you get up in the higher point games, but when you do take them they can be built to kill but for a price.
The reason to the sorcerer lords being so popular is that now days you need to have some type of magic defense other wise you will just get pushed around. Plus its nice to be able to deal damage in all of the phases, not to mention that chaos magic is up there with some of the strongest magic in the game.
At 800 pts. you have a few choices, what I have found to work it taking one hero, some marauders, and a unit of worriers and go from there and keep in mind that you have to have at least three units minimum. Everyone is different and everyone likes different things, but both units are good choices.
When putting a list together at any point level keep in mind that a warriors although strong can be out numbered easily. Have some through away units like hounds don't disregard them just because they cant take on a unit by themselves. They have there purpose like redirecting a charge away from your line, hunting warmachines, and working as a flesh shield.
As for you Nurgle it really is pure choice. If you will have fun with it take Nurgle. A lot of people take Tzeentch because it tends to be a bit more competitive, but that dosen't have to be a make or break. I have ran both, and have had a lot of fun with both. I also agree the Nurgle models do look awesome.
Hope that this helps a bit, if you have any other question feel free to post. There is a lot of good help on this forum, and everyone has been real nice and welcomes newcomers good luck!!!!

Thx for the welcome and the help Stonemedtech !
Could I use the lord model as an hero instead? I really love that model. And in this Escalation league I will play in I have to have an avatar represented in the army. And after every battle he goes in he will get a bonus. And I could upgrade him to a lord later in the game. The bonus look like this:
Roll two d6:
2 something bad happens
3 +1 strenght / Killing blow
4 +1 Attack / +1 Attack and Magical attacks
5 +1 Magic Resistance / +2 Magic Resistance
6 +1 WS och Bs / + Hatred and quick to fire
7 +1 Initative
8 +10pts max Magic Items / +10pts Magic items
9 +1 Toughness / and immune to poison
10 +1 Wound / immune to Killing blow
11 +1 leadership
12 something good happens.
And this bonus I felt like it will better on a hero instead of wizard. What do you think? If I go all nurgle, what will be a good list and what kind of magic should I have? The escalation league will go up from 800-2000pts. Could I skip the wizard in the first battles and when should I definitely have to have him?
First of all amazing idea for the league you should have a lot of fun with it. I know if I was playing against you I would not have a problem with you using you lord as a hero and upgrading him latter, but it would be proper to clear it with the league master first, and yes the bonus would be better suited for a combat hero than for the wizard. I like having one in every game, but it gets hard and pricey to fit two hero's in a low point game. When you do fit a wizard in maybe you could break the nurgel mark for this one model and take shadows. It tends to work well with warriors if you give your sorcerer the mark of nurgle he has to use nurgle magic, but warriors would be a good choice you can fit a good unit in at this point level, and they will be a brick for other army's to deal with at this point level. build an army, and post it you will get a lot of good feed back.
A friend help my out and gave me this list, what do you think?
Exalted Hero 149p
Mark of Nurgle, Halberd, Luckstone, Dragonhelm
14 Chaos Warriors 268p
Shields, Halberds, Mark of Nurgle, Full command
20 Chaos Marauders 120p
Flails, Mark of Nurgle, Full command
5 Marauder Horsemen 81p
Spears, Shields, Musician
5 Chaos Warhounds 30p
5 Chaos Warhounds 30p
1 Chaos Chariot 120p
Exalted Hero 130p
- Mark of Nurgle 20
- Magic Items for 24p.
12 Chaos Warriors w Shield
Full Command 252p
Mark of Nurgle
19 Chaos Marauders 164
Shield, Light Armour
-Mark of Nurlge
5 Chaos Warhounds 30
5- Chaos Knights 200p
Both lists have their ups and downs.
Don't feel limited to only the mark of nurgle. You can choose freely from any marks you want.
Warriors with halberds work well with mark of Khorne or the banner of rage, warriors with shields work well with mark of tzeentch for an improved parry save.
Marauders follow a similar pattern, great weapons with Khorne, shields with tzeentch.
Chariots can be a bit lacklustre, they lack the punch to do the job alone.
I think you should try both lists, this points level takes very little time and you can learn a lot from a few early games. You've included a nice range of units there so just have a go, that's what we did before the Internet!
A magic item on the hero to give magic resistance might pay off until you back him up with a sorcerer. Either that or something to boost his armour save or better, a ward save.
Hi Seth-Ra! Thx for the help. Okay so there is no limits how I pick my marks. But if my hero has mark of nurgle can he join a group of warriors with mark of Khorne?
Yeah I definitely need to play to understand, right now everything is just confusing. The problem is that I have to send in my army-list soon. So I really need some help how to make a fun and good list hopefully based on a nurgle hero.
I like the Chaos Knights also, but I have been reading on forums that they are to expensive for what they do. Is it worth taking Knights at 800pts?
A hero with MoN is allowed to join a unit wiyh MoK How necessary is it to you to have an all MoN army? Because MoT warriors with Hw/Shields are amazing at low point levels. When you're at low point games every model counts, and having a 3+ followed by a 5++ if that first save fails is fantastic. Knights are good in the sense that they're a strong mobile unit (basically M7 warriors). Whether or not they are worth their points is something you'll have to decide after you test them out.
If you want I can make a list of something I'd use keeping your preferences in mind once I get home and have my books with me (I'm sitting in physics class hehe)
There isn't a lot to challenge knights at 800 points. They will be able to truly rampage across the board. If you worry about cost, marauder horse can hit hard with mark of Khorne and flails, but have no survivability. (cheap though)
The trouble with marauder foot is that they work best in massive units like the 50 man horde, which is hard to fit in at low points cost.
MoN is not important, I just want to use the Nurgle Lord figure somehow. Everything else does not matter . Immortal Scrub if you would do a list for me I would be very happy !
Okay so knights are playable at this low points. Like the models also, so thats good. 50 man marauder horde!!! that sounds a lot of painting to do... not a big fan of the models but have seen that many use them.
I am still very confused with all gear and stuff that you could choose. I use to play SW in 40k and it is much simpler than fantasy i think...
