    2000pts vs Brets

Locked in (can not change per league rules):

    Sorcerer Lord [shadow]
    lvl4
    Conjoined Humonculous
    Third eye of Tzeentch
    Talisman of Endurance
    Infernal Puppet
    Charmed Shield
    Ironcurse Icon
    Shrieking Blade

    Exalted Hero

    MoT
    BSB
    Halberd
    Stream of Corruption
    Talisman of Preservation
    Favour of the Gods

    20 Chaos Warriors,
    MoT, Blasted Standard, Shields, FC

    Hellcannon

With the points remaining I am considering adding (a) or (b) to hit the 2000pt mark:

    (a)

Exalted w/ MoT, Shield, Aethersword (no armor saves)
20 Chaos Warriors, MoT, Razor Standard, Shields, FC

    Warshrine
    2x5 Chaos Hounds

    (b)

Exalted w/ MoT, Shield, Aethersword (no armor saves)
15 Chaos Warriors, MoK, Standard of Disc., Halberds, Musician+Standard
    42 Marauders, MoK, GW, FC
    5 Chaos Hounds

I'd take the second given the choice, though I'd personally give the exalted a halberd and some protection. You don't get parry saves with a magic weapon and with s6 you'll be ignoring most armour anyway.

really? I picked the no "armor save" swords specifically for Brets thinking it would be my best performer. Wounding Brets is easy, but getting through 1+ and 2+ armor saves is tough, even with S6 (halberd), they get a 4+ save.

The reason I was contemplating 20 warriors is because he usually wins combat through static combat res by 1 or 2 points. He likes to run a knight star with BSB/General/Paladin in front and 4 ranks of his best knights, so he gets Charge + 3x Ranks + Banner + BSB + Magic warbanner = 7pts off the bat. Actual wounds are usually a draw or so he's always up on combat res and I usually end up losing by 1 or 3 points and end up having to roll a break test on a 5 or 6 re-rollable. It's sad to see my warrior block take one wound and flee.

3 points for ranks??!! So he has 20 knights in a single unit? That's just asking to be hit with... something. Purple sun? Treason? Quagmire? A hellcannon? all could put a massive dent in such a unit. Also, if he's using such cheese in a single unit I would suggest countering with our own uber deathstar unit - wailing favor chosen - let's see them get through a 3+ ward save!! Also, halberd would also be -4 armour save in the razor unit, for 45 less points. I'd say it's worth it, but that's my opinion. If armour is worrying you, take throgg (if your group allows SCs) - he obliterates anything, whether it relies on armour saves or not. Seriously, 3d6 s5 hits are nothing to ignore.

A few things that hurt Brets:

Blocks of 18 Marauders with MoK/Flails/Mus./Banner, they really don't know how to deal with it.

    Hellcannons, just great fun.

Nurgle is a solid Lore for magic.

Hounds are very nice for redirecting charges, and they WILL get the charge.

Brets only need 3 models to make a rank, I think he runs 12 total for 4 ranks.

I brets this weekend but against his non-league list. The hellcannon was a huge disappointment, it's just not that effective against a 2+/5++. From my experience it's great at softening up low armor/toughness foes like elves and scaring stuff off the board early game, otherwise I try to get it into combat. He heroic killing blow'd it bottom of turn 2 after it shot down 2 knights in 2 turns of shooting.

Unfortunately most of my list is locked for the league, I can only change around 800pts for each game and no SC allowed unless it's a themed list. I might try nurgle or your marauders suggestion.
