Welcome to Librarium Online!
Below is my newly designed 1.5K Archaon's Horde army which will face some extremely shooty Skaven. Feedback will greatly be appreciated. We've been playing some 1K games and recently the rats have been shooting me all to hell.
- Bezerker Sword
- Enchanted Shield
2nd Lvl Sorceror
- Power Familiar
- Shadow Lore
Warriors x16 (Exalted w/join)
- either a Blasted Standard or Mark of Nurgle can't decide
- War Banner
My general strategy will be to march-up the left flank and center with the marauders and warriors. The right flank will have the knights being screened by the warhounds. My spawn will hold back and deal with any scouts he may send to deal with my Sorceror, then turn up field to flank (hopefully!). Further, hopefully my Sorceror will be able to get off his spell that will give my Exalted Champ the ability to Fly up to 20inches and charge one of his units and break it w/his bezerker sword, therefore causing panic tests.
The Skaven general will be fielding a large unit of Jezzails, a Doom Wheel, two large units of Clanrats w/two ratling guns, 2 units of 4 Globiars (sp), a large unit of Slaves, 2 Mages, a Hero/Champion, and unit of frenzied unit of monks or gutter runners.
The beserker sword isnt all that great, two or three attacks usually at most. But I've never played against skaven, and it would seem they always have big regiments so I guess that wouldn' be a bad idea.Originally Posted by jonsoloWhy another unit of warriors? You just seem to have very big units of troops, with very little shocking power. Try and take these out, and throw some maradaurs with flails/great weapons in. Although, I can see that you want your units at maximum rank bonus when they actually get into combat, beast herds can lend alot to this, and you can prolly field two units of these things for around the same price as a single unit of chaos warriors.Originally Posted by jonsolo
Beast herd (20 strong)=114 without upgrades. + They skirmish. I just included these guys in my army, and I cant believe how I went without them. I think they are extremly underatted. The command on these things are extremly outragous, and I really wouldn' put a champion in there. That should clear about a couple of points, for what though...still needs to be decided...Originally Posted by jonsolo
Thanks for the advice. Only problem is that Archaon's Horde cannot have beastmen included in it.
I guess my reasoning for adding two units of warriors is that one of them will probably be decimated by missle fire and magic. But I guess getting rid of one and then increasing the other unit to 20, would allow me to throw something else in there like Flayerkin. Wouldn't be a bad idea.
Finally, yes the beserker sword kick $@# against the Skaven. I will usage get between 13-16 attacks against his clanrats or slaves with it. It usually kills enough to win combat.
What do you think about the mark of nurgle or blasted standard?
Yes, I remembered that as soon as I had left the house. I personally dont like Archaon Horde army lists, as I feel it to restrictive. Loosing deamons/beasts is kind of a drawback. Only good thing is the free upgrades.Originally Posted by jonsoloNeither of these would do much. Your only real main problem would be actually engaging with close combat, but I guess the fear of the mark of nurgle is kind of ok, especially against skaven. The blasted standard however, will not do much most of the time, maybe get 1-3 wounds off but other then that, its pretty much useless.Originally Posted by jonsoloAnother thing I remembered before I left the house...I thought all Archaon Horde army lists has to either be generaled by Crom or Archaon himself...but seeing as this is a 1.5 with no lords, I guess that nulifies it?Originally Posted by jonsolo
Also, I would try to include some calvary. 2 Units of 5 horsemen with throwing axes wouldn hurt and they come in nearly under 100 without upgrades.
I would drop the Spawn for more warhounds and marauder horsemen, they are too good to field in so small numbers.
Don't bother with a Lv 2 sorcerer, the magic phase is very tight at 1500, and only 1 mage won't make it through. Instead, a Lv 1 sorcerer with 2 dispell scrolls shoudl sufice plenty.
the knights are still expensive without the chosen status, I would only field them at 2500, they could go towards more marauders on foot, or perhaps more warriors.
Looks good though ^_^
Sorry to burst your bubble here mate, but you clearly haven't read the rules for the Beserker Sword properly. Read it again and you'll notice that it states the character gets an additional number of attacks equal to half the unit strength of the models in base contact with the bearer, not half the unit strength of the unit in base contact, just the actual models.Originally Posted by jonsolo
This means that if on foot against clanrats, the most your champion could get is +2 attacks (3 skaven = US3, half that rounding up is 2). Do you really think that the Beserker Sword would be the price it is if you could get +13-16 attacks with it?! :hmm:
"Peace, through superior firepower."
Yep, your right. I read it incorrectly. Thanks.
