    2000 pt Nurgle Mortal List

    Greeting Chaos players! I'm writing this list here to get some much needed help for one of my friends that plays Chaos. Thus far, he's 0-4 against my Tomb Kings (Massacred each time) and 0-1 against another player's Orcs. I'm not totally sure about all of the options in his army (magic items and such), and sometimes his army varies slightly (ie, he'll replace Mauradera with a Beast Herd). Anyways, take a look over this generalized list and please provide input so I can have more challenging games.

    Characters

    General (variations) sometimes an Aspiring Champ, sometimes the next level up, or (rarely) is Lord Level Aspiring Champ guy. Always with the Mark of Nurgle. (not sure on magic items)

    Chaos Sorcerer (always a scroll, not sure on other magic items)
    Chaos Sorcerer (always a scroll, not sure on other magic items)

    Core
    14 Chaos Warriors with Full Command, hand weapon, shield, heavy armor and the Mark of Nurgle
    14 Chaos Warriors with Full Command, hand weapon, shield, heavy armor and the Mark of Nurgle
    Either 14 Marauders with Full Command or a medium sized Beast Herd with full command
    4 Chaos Knights with the Mark of Nurgle
    Chaos Chariot with the Mark of Nurgle
    6 Marauder Horsemen with throwing axes
    8 Chaos Hounds

    Special
    14 Plague Bearers

    Rare
    Chaos Spawn
    Chaos Spawn

    Personally, I think his Warrior units, while fluffy, are too small, esspecially when buying a mark, since the mark is not pro-rated based on unit size (ie, it always costs 50pt for the mark whether there are 10 Warriors or 20 Warriors)
    And also I feel that Plaguebearers are pretty much junk when compared to the other demon units.

    At any rate, any help would be much appreciated.
    Don't get me wrong, I don't mind winning, but I'd much rather have a close and challenging game and win by a small margin than massacre my opponent each and every time.

    Ehmm I dont play Chaos but one of my friends does so I know a little of it.
    As far as I can see he needs to make hes warrior units bigger. A minimum of 16 but 20 would fit it best.
    Perhaps drop a mark on one of the units that have it.
    Decrease the horsemen to 5.
    Make the hounds 10 and split them in 2 units and use them as flankers.
    Use only one Spawn as, I have experienzed, 2 gets a bit hard to control.
    Also try and make the Plague Beares a minimum of 16.

    Dont know if it will work but then again, its the general that makes the victory (well mostly) not the list

    He should only take dispell scrolls for the sorcerers as these will help minimise the effect of enemy magic. He should also consider giving one of them a chaos steed. If he takes the Mark of Nurgle on them he will gain access to a very powerful lore.
    He should take a Chaos lord for the extra leadership to minimise the effect of panic (which the mark of Nurgle does not negate I might add). He should give the lord Two handweapons and Mark Of Nurgle, with toughness 5, 4 wounds and six strength 5 attacks he should hold his own.



    Core

    14 Chaos Warriors with Full Command, hand weapon, shield, heavy armor and the Mark of Nurgle

    Drop the knights, they are not a legal unit at four strong anyway and are just a points sink for their size. In their place he should take a second chariot with the mark of Nurgle. If they charrge at the same time they will cause a horrific amount of damage.

    He should drop a chaos warrior unit and increase the other to 16+. He should then invest in two units of 20-25 marauders with a full command one led by the above mentioned chaos lord, the other by a sorcerer.

    If he takes the Achaon's Horde list he will benfit from a free command for his warriors and marauders saving on points. As for the beastmen he should really leave them at home unless he wants to use them as a skirmish screen. But then he does not seem to be using them properly anyway so he should drop them.

    The horsemen are fine though he might want to think about giving them spears and shields in addition to the throwing axes for when they charge into flanks and enemy warmachine crews (strength 4 is better then strength 3). He also should think about buying another unit of hounds as these will really help in holding up some of your more powerfull units for a turn or two while he manouvers into a better position They are cheap enough that loosing them should not really matter if they suceed.



    Special

    14 Plague Bearers



    Dropping these is a must. At their current size they will disappear faster than a poet at a World Eaters convention. It will free up much needed points.


    Rare

    Chaos Spawn

    Chaos Spawn



    These are usefull for holding up powerful units almost indeffinately. Upgrading them to Beasts of Nurgle can be effective against high toughness opponants and it is fluffy.
