Hi folks, hoping to get some advice from more experienced players. I'm in the process of collecting a mortal army (got about 750 pts bought and painted) with an eventual goal of 2000pts. That's going to take a while however, so I'm trying to create a decent 1K list as a stepping stone. But this means I'm restricted to using stuff that I want in the 2K version.
Anyway, I've been getting some tips from the forums, and am trying to resist the urge to use chosen warriors! The eventual plan is for it to be an undevided force, but in 1K I can only afford one hero, and he's gotta be Khorne to go with the Khorne warriors. (I was going to have him mounted, but not in a unit - I have been told however that that is dumb). I plan to phase in some magic in 2K (unevided general, khorne hero, two spellcasters) to avoid missing out on two thirds of the game (since there aint no shooting either).
That said, here is my planned 1K list, any advice would be much appreciated:
Exhalted champ of Khorne (General, with warriors)
Axe of Khorne
14 x Warriors of Khorne
H. Weapon + Shield
5 x Chosen knights of Khorne
5 x Marauder Horsemen
6 x Warhounds (screen knights)
6 x Furies (Cannon Hunters)
Spawn of Khorne
Total 1000pts exactly

PS: I know I should be playing marauders, but I HATE painting humans!
i like this list. and i think they'll support each other well. howver, and know its hard in 1000 points, you may need a supporting unit (like marauders). howver, since you dont like humans, maybe use beastmen. i use em, and they're fast, tough, lots of attacks, skermishers do they're harder to shoot at and they're dirt cheap, depending on your mix or gors and ungors.
to save points, maybe ditch the standard and muso on the knights (they wont need em. i dont have em when they're chosen) and drop a fury (since you'll only get 3 into contact with machine crew anyway.
probably the biggest change i would make is the spawn, there good when they get to combat but not outside. THis being the case, str 5 isnt important. 15 points from that 15 points from the furie thts 30 points rith there. I dont like spawns unless there slannesh becuase there too unreliable to get into combat. If you drop that you have enough points for a beast herd. Look at them there really useful at kiling other skirmishers, skinks!!!!! the bane of chaos, we just cant kill them.

Cool, thanks for the input. I think you are right about taking the mark off the spawn - I plan to make him Slanesh in my 2K version of the list, cos then I will have points for another characther, who will be the undevided general. I kinda just stuck the mark on him cos I had exactly 15 points left over.
As for dropping a fury... I figure it is important to outnumber warmachine crews in order for the fear to work properly. With 5, that means you can only afford to lose one to shooting on your way accross the board - would you expect to lose more than that?
Beast herds definately good! will certainly add one in time. Going with the spawn initally though as I already have him, and it means I can get a force up and running Â£18 sooner!
In this army, do you think the marauder horsemen are more important than a beast herd? (I know the points are different, but assuming I could fit them in...), cos money wise they are about the same.
I think the Chosen Knights of Khorne are probably too big of a points sink in 1000 pts, unless you are fighting noone with decent shooting. 1 knight is more expensive than a dwarf or goblins bolt thrower, and you can't screen them very long. Finally, since they are frenzied, your foe can make them chase fast cav around all game uselessly, and pound the rest of your army. If none of your opponents field good shooting or fast cav, they are wonderful though. I'd make them Chosen OR MoK. Honestly, I'd just field them as basic knights with musician, but that is just my taste.
With the extra points, I'd give your warriors the banner of Rage. This is probably also overkill, but I hate losing my Chaos General cause someone got a lucky flank charge or something, and the reroll is worthwhile.
If your horsemen are using spears, I'd try for shields also, for a little survivability.
Beastmen are a great idea, they provide a support unit and a survivable screen for your warriors. They might well be better than maruader horsemen, depends if you want to use hit and run tactics (MH) or just smack the foe (beastmen).
