Im a 40k player and new to Fantasy as the title suggests. I took a look on the website and the Chaos models looked absolutely exquisite. Im wanting to start a Khorne army (only because of the bloodthirster, I was tempted to start a khorne 40k army just for him). so can you guys give me a rundown of what Chaos and Khorne in particular? I will rep you if you post helpfully. thanks
Alrighty. I've never played Chaos per se, but they are the next army I'm doing (Tzeentch Mortals) and I have played against them once or twice.
Chaos is pretty much the elite CC army in the game. Chaos (mortals) will usually have less models than most non cav armies in the game, but they are very elite troops. Also, they have some of the nastiest characters in the game for CC.
Khorne is probably the most popular god at the moment. The mark gives whatever unit/character you give it to frenzy and an extra attack. That unit/character also generates one extra dispel dice for your army. The basic tactics for Khorne as far as I see them (very basic) are to get into CC pretty much asap with as much of your army intact as possible (simple yes?).
My advice would be to start with an undivided army. Try a unit of Khorne. I thought I was going to be a hard charge'n ground pound'n buzz-saw of dispelling furry. But I found that Slaanesh ended up being my play style. If you go with undivided you can swap things in and out of your army. Have it lean towards one god one game or another the next.
The biggest strength of the khorne army is it's biggest problem. Your army is frenzied. I has to charge anything in range. Now that doesn't sound to bad. Get the charge and smash some faces. Well what if you're charging an expendable unit, and you're being set up for a counter charge... what if the unit you charged flees and starts leading you around the board.
But I don't want you to think that khorne is worthless. I've squared off against khorne. It's not a pretty thing seeing a block of chosen, khornish, 2 hand weapon, warriors 6 wide (that's a total of 24 attacks, +1 for champ., that's an easy 12 to 13 wounds on a standard inf. unit) marching down the middle of the board.
Hope this helped a little.
