Welcome to Librarium Online!
I just started thinking up a Chaos Undivided army.
I made up a Chaos lord as the General. At first draft I gave him Gaze of the gods, Rending sword, Armour of Damnation, Barded chaos steed and shield.
He weighs in at 337 points
An Exalted champion costs significantly less as he starts at half the cost and there is less capacity to twink out.
Thus I invite discussion, is it worth the cost at 2000 points to field a Chaos Lord, and if so, how do you field him?
definately worth it, in terms of leadership and killing ability, but as you can see, you'll probably only have room for 2 other characters, which should be used for some sort of magic defense.
It depends on your playing style.
If it involves getting stuck in quick and dishing out death on a indiscrimate basis (which it should) then hell yeah, get one.
I cant think of an army that wont benifit from a chaos lord. They really are hard.
(okay, possibly tzeentch, where that XXXpt mark is really prohibitive)
The name refers to facial hair, not playing style.Originally Posted by A news vendor's stand, London, June 1940
Well if your going undivided I would use Crom, normally I don't use special character, because they are way to cheese and over powered, but Crom is the exceptions, he is only 230 points, his stats are slightly better than a normal lord, and in challenges he gets cool weapon stances that he can use.
As far as Crom's concerned I agree, he's hero Meta (to coin a CCG phrase).
Otherwise I'm not sure I agree. For the cost of a tooled up Lord I can have 2 exalted champions moderately tooled up. I reckon I must be able to do more with two Exalted Champions than 1 Lord.
It depends. Some like the no holds barred, batter down the front door approach of two ECs but I rather like the extra benefits of the Lord.
1. His extra point of WS means he hits all non-Chaos, non-Vampire Lord choices on 3+, making him great for decapitation strikes on most enemy generals (that aren't blood dragons ).
2. The extra ld is the best of all. Sure, ECs are kinda killy, but they are the optimists choice. A Chaos Lord has the all too handy ld9, so in a sticky situation both him and most of the units around him get a serious benefit.
All the other extras are nice, but I think those are the big ones. A lord is a solid all-rounder, which I much prefer to the almost solely fighty nature of the EC.
Having an army and not owning a rulebook is like owning a car with no steering wheel.Originally Posted by amishcellphone
i too am on the lord's side...
-Ld 9 is always useful (much more for me since i use trolls)
-the extra toughness and wound are quite a life insurance
-the offensive side is not far better than the ec, but a lord alone can be used efficiently against flanks or crewmen or shooters, while the ec might not
all the above, provided that you could buy two ecs for the same price (something less, actually)
i usually field the lord in a cavalry unit with bcs, shield and flail. this makes him quite immune to rank'n'file damage and a perfect mass-murderer.
otherwise i give him the gaze plus black maul and just throw him at the enemy
or i take the book of secrets and 2 dispel if i need some magic defense
or take the lvl4 tzeentch mage with the staff of change and the eye of tzeentch, on disc
anyway, a lord of chaos never disappointed me...never 8Y
It's better, it's shiny, it's warped...it's Chaos.
As it has been said by previous posters, I agree completely with the lord being worth the points.
I myself field a Lord with shield mounted on chaos dragon, switching between the hellfire sword and the berzerker sword. Most armies I face lose at least 25-50 % of their forces to him, making him more than worth the 600 and some odd points I pay for him.
He even survived 2 full blasts from skaven warp lightning cannon before the third killed him.
recently I have given him the mark of Tzeetch to play test against my warhammer buddies.
Should be fun. . . . .
