Hey, i'm really new to the game and am deciding what army to start with. I already have skull pass, so it would be a little cheaper if I started with orcs and goblins I think.
Money is a factor, yes.
hello welcome to fantasy,
i play both armies and well orcs and goblins u tend to use quite a sizeable force for them to really be effective and the models are quite cheap gaming wise, but then chaos the models are more expensive (also gaming wise) but they make up for this by being rock hard!! both armies have some wicked troops like black orcs of o&g, but then chaos get chosen knights!! O&G are great for a laugh and so funny sumtimes, but if you just want to smash and be totally evil go with chaos!!
it really is up to you what you do, but you have to find an army which suits your playing style and which you like the sound of and the back ground for. read up on them for abit then decide!
let me know what you decide on, hope it helps
because of what was posted above, the O&G is a much more forgiving army. When you lose a unit, you lose 200pts but have another 6-7 large units and tons of other guys running around to make up their place. HoC and you lose a unit (unless you're playing all marauder) you'll lose 3-400pts in a unit and because there is fewer of them, it is very easy to out maneuver and surround your units and kill them no matter how rock hard some people think they are.
the O&G book is newer and improved imo, and it is more fun to play because of it's randomness and silliness. The HoC book is old and outdated and would be harder to use because of that. But you could go either way. Depends on which models you like too.
yup the new orcs tend to be much more "choas like" than before...
because if you want, you can make an all-orc army consisting of 4 units of 20 orcs each + heroes, with at least 3 attacks per ranknfile model and S5 on charge. you just watch your green tide flush away the enemy, it's really funny 8X
or else you can focus more on tactics, taking some orcs, some gobbos, and obviously fanatics!
the only major drawback of the new orcs is magic:
-wizards tend to blow themselves up really too often (see the waagh miscast...)
-magical items are mostly not worth taking, and btw there is no serious ward save available
but again i can tell you that if you deploy well and call waagh at the right time, at the 2nd turn you charge and win. i saw this happen many times
O&G are really more flexible - between pure chaos-like units of orcs, and masses of goblins etc...
It's better, it's shiny, it's warped...it's Chaos.
Thanks for the help, theres a 2500+ point hordes of chaos, well painted, army on ebay, and if it goes for a good price i'm going to get that. If not i'm going to go O a G. Otherwise is there a 3rd army choice that would be good for me? I like evil, and STRONG/powerful. I'd rather go in and destroy my enemy than sit back and use magic the whole time, but i'll still mix it up... if you know what I mean at all... lol
