Pretty new to WFB, I play 40k. Looking at CW's I have to ask if there is a point to chosen status?
On CW's with heavy armour and shields they gain a 4+ save, which is exactly the same as chaos armour anyway, so is there a point to chaos armour? Seems like you only gain the extra attack, which whilst useful is perhaps to expensive points wise.
On CWK's you already have a 2+ save (with shields) yet with chosen you get a 1+ save!! Am I missing something here? 1+ save so these guys just don't die ever??
I know I must be missing something but what? Thanks for your help.
The 1+ save is one of the most hated things in the game. The roll of a 1 is always failure, so they're not invincible. However, it effects how the armor save is modified by Strength. Suddenly your average lance charge only reduces your armor to 3+. Chosen Knights are mean upon mean. Since their units are usually small, the extra attack can make all the difference. On CWK's you already have a 2+ save (with shields) yet with chosen you get a 1+ save!! You'd be amazed how telling that extra armor and extra attack can be in the game.
Thanks makes more sense now.
Personally I have gone for bulk on both, 14 CW's with standard and musician (joined by a hero) and 9 knights with standard and musician joined by a hero.
When you consider that the majority of what you'll be facing will hit you with the Magic 5 Combat Res (+3 Ranks, +1 Outnumber, +1 Banner), your 2 ranks with the warriors and 1 rank with the knights will matter very little - you'll be better off relying on wounds to even the score, which means you need more attacks.
Especially on the knights. Consider the points you're paying for that second rank when all you're getting out of it is a +1 for a single rank. You're better off going for more attacks, in my opinion. As expensive as Knights are, you need all of them to attack as much as possible.
cyric is right...
i may suggest a frontage of 6, to maximise the attacks.
so 12 warriors and 6 knights per unit.
It's better, it's shiny, it's warped...it's Chaos.
Alright, cheers folks.
