I've got my first battle with the new deamon list tomorrow, against orcs (possibly against the new black orc list) and I've decided to go for numbers over power.
here's my list, see what you think.
Exalted deamon: diabolic splendour
12 plague bearers: full command
3 plague riders
11 horrors: champion
Origionally it was going to be nurgle/undivided with a herald instead of the horrors, however I've just finished painting my horrors and they look rather nice to be blunt, therefore I want to take them for a spin (as you would if you'd just bought a nice new car).
it's either this approach, or the magic approach ( ei exalted deamon with Mark of tzeentch, herald with the same, horrors with champion) and then just avoud getting into combat and blast the enemy, however this rapidly becomes dull (after using an army made of a lord of change and two exalted champions on discs along with a couple of fast units, and just staying out of charge arc a few times, you'll discover this) for me and my opponent, so I've gone for the dirty approach.
if you're interested I'm also having a 40K battle with a similar army against orcs tomorrow too (I think my mind has been warped by deamons).
anyway, what do you think?
Well it doesn't matter what you think now, I've had my fight.
and I massacred him, well, sort of.
to cut a long story short, the horrors drew off a unit of black orcs (they then got horibbly killed by it, but we won't go into that). The furies then charged a bolt thrower crew, which failed their fear test and ran (being run down by the furies). next turn, and the plaguebearers, riders, furies and exalted deamon charged a unit of big uns, who failed their fear test and ran (being run down by the furies). Then the furies charged a rock lobber crew, who failed their fear test and ran (off the board). and then a combination of furies in the back, exalted deamon in one flank, plagueriders in the other, and plague bearers at the front saw the black orcs kill 2 furies and a plague bearer and the plague riders kill 6 black orcs, I won the combat, they auto broke (outnumbered by fear causing dudes) and the furies ran them down.
so really I just found how useful fear is, as aposed to the new deamons, however next time, I'll take a nurgle chariot (with two deamon beasts) instead of the horrors take out the plague riders and make the plague bearer unit around 20 strong (with the unholy icon) and then have a herald with the deamon doo dah, which lets them re roll failed instability tests.
so there you go.
if you're interested I also massacred him in 40K too (there was much gloating).
I'm no Einstein, but i think that battle was awfully wrong.
Atleast i think, you cannot combine unit strength. It's the same the other way around for example: 4x6 silver helms charge a 10 strong man unit of Cold one knights(fearcausing). The cold one knights oddly enough win, with a unit strength of 20. Do the Silver Helms not autobreak because they are more? No, they are different units and all flee.
It's the same with rank bonus, you cant combine it with others. Even if you have a 2 rank in the flank and a 3 rank in the front you still only get 2+ bonus instead of 3+ combined.
Hope that cleared it up for you.
First of all, you do flee if you're ountumbered by a charging, fear causing, enemy and you fail your test.
and in combat I had US 12 plaguebearers, US 9 plagueriders, US 3 exalted deamon, US 5 furies (adding up to a unit strength of 29) against his US 25 black orcs, therefore when I won the combat, he was outnumbered by fear causing enemys and legged it, admittedly not one unit of lots of fear causing enemys (like 30 plaguebearers for instance) but lots of units of a few, and so he ran.
However if I had 12 plaguebearers and (theoretically) 20 marauders, and won, his 25 black orcs would ountumber the fear causers, and so not auto break, but they would lose another CR point for being outnumbered.
um dude the other persons right you only get it for one unit if you have like 40 units of 5 plague bearers you still dont automatically break them for outnumbering you take the highest unit strength not all of them added together!
