I'm thinking of getting back into fantasy now that my ork army is done. Since I already have a few beastsmen from a previous foray into fantasy I feel like they should see some use, but at the same time I want to experiment with a mortal army.
So what I want to know is how effective a combined army would be and who should lead it. Currently I have the models to make 1 20 strong beast herd, a handful of characters including two bray-shamans, 2 beastlords and a mounted chaos sorcerer. I also own a Chaos Giant and a Shaggoth (mostly due to coolness factor).
Any suggestions on assembling an army would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think that would be a great start .If You have somebody else to game with start with a lower point game so you can get the basics back. Then after a few games you will have some Idea of where you want to go with the army.
Lol, ill post what i said here so the mods can delete the other thread..
Going for a combo list, also look into a few Daemons too, notabley Furies and possibly Screamers.
Id say your best bet was to pick your general based on wht Core units you want most. If you go with a BeastLord, for he Herds then make sure you armour him up to make him hard. This also gives you the advantage of being able to Ambush.
With Mortals, you get a harder general, alhough i think the Core selections arent as brilliant, Chosen Knights make for a great special choice anyway. In a mixed army generally stuff has to be fast and/or hard hitting, so im not so sure about using Warriors. Marauders possibly, but ill leave that up to you for now.
As you have some Beasts stuff to start with, id say start there. Thinking lower points to start with, have a argor, Bray Shaman and mortal Sorc. Beast Herds as Core, possibly Bestigor for the Wargor to join.
Your special slots are key though, and this is where you want to mix it up. A Chaos Knight unit, some Minotaurs, Centigor and Furies are all good choices.
As for Rares, start with a Spawn or two for now.
Yeah i've been playing mortals for a while now. My roomate who got me into warhammer fantasy played beastmen for years. Theres a bunch of options with them considering how you can mix mortals and daemons. I'd be careful though for now because the lists might get separated soon (in may) when the new Daemons book comes out.
From what i've heard dragon ogres work better than the shaggoth (against alot of shooting anyways) just because they have multiple wounds (multiple models) and aren't large targets all the while getting a crap ton of str 7 attacks (with great weapons).
Ambushing works very well against stationary or defensive armies. You have alot of hard hitting big things on the board, then ambush alot of small fast things so by turn 2 everything comes on and hits the enemy by turn 3 (or with magic turn 2).
There are many strategies to pursue with beasts, find one you like and I'd say base your army off your strategy.
