Characters on a mount in a infantry unit

Say I had ten Chaos warriors, and I wanted to field them in a 6x2 formation. Is it feasible to give a exalted champion that will join the unit a demonic steed? he will take up two warriors deep and only one wide, count as two chaos warriors for unit strength purposes, and fill out a extra rank for very cheap. Is this possible? Are there any major drawbacks?

He's on a Daemonic mount, which is a Monstrous Mount and is therfore on a 50x50 base. He'll take up the space of 4 warriors rather than two. Also, yes he can join the units and you'll still get rank bonuses and unit strength from him (four, I believe? 3 for the mount 1 for the rider).

....Sorry about my lack of memory...I completely chose the wrong horse to ride.
I meant mounted on a Chaos steed.

There are worse things to sink points into. It will give you an extra attack and a +1 to your armor save, and hey who knows maybe you see a loan wizard in need of a good thrashing and don't want to send the whole unit after him.

Then he would take up the space of two warriors and work the same as if there were two.

The Slaanesh mounts, yes. Generally, a monstrous flier may not join any units--even of fliers--but because the book says he floats rather than flies, I imagine he may be able to join the unit. I'll have to go back and look at the book again, but as long as it doesn't say that a character riding a disc counts as a flier with 15" movement or something similar, you should be fine and it will work the same way.

    Hope this helps!

OOO thanks for clearing that up, yes i reread the book and it says he floats not flies. (or at least i cant see any mention) This will be great for my exalted champion. This would also mean he can join a unit of knights right? As long as they go at the speed of the slowest unit they would move as a unit?

Check out your army list for my explanation on why people do not do it for the mark of Khorne.
