Hey guys, im looking for some help as to how to use chaos knights (chosen or otherwise) effectively. The knights i take in battles seem to always either piss around the edges of the battle never contributing and chasing things down worth 1/10th their point cost or get shot to pieces in the first round of shooting / magic.
Can anyone link me to a good guide / faq about using heavy cavalry in warhammer?
Do Chaos Knights need a tactica? Charge, Kill, Win. Thats about it, They are the hardest thing in Fantasy, and can pretty much take on any enemy and come out on top.
As a general rule, keep them UnChosen in 1K or under, and make one unit Chosen if possibly in anything over that. Marks help too, especially Khorne, if you can handle the Frenzy well.

Couldn't have said it better. Charge kill and win thats about it. Just get them into combat and they'll do the rest. In high point games make them chosen with mark of khorn....ouch wouldn't want to be on the other end of that charge.
40k orks 4/1/1 2000pts
HighElves 10/0/0 5000pts
I totally... disagree, charge, kill, no, that's the way to get into troubles.
I had the same problem, my Knights were chasing small units for low points, fortunatelly they usually hit something decent in a mid game and then smashed it into pieces.
Now, there is a way to get around the problem. Set two cheap units (warhounds or marauder horsemen) in front of the Knights. Knights can't see the target they can't charge it. Once you think next turn they will be in charge range, wheel the shield units to the sides (like opening double doors), and then charge, kill, kill etc.. make sure when you open, you will have enough gap to squeeze through, but not so much that the knights would see any orher unit.
Using this tactics, the enemy can't shoot your knights and who cares about some dogs or overgrown barbarians. If there were any disposable units on the way, marauders should be able to get rid of them, if not, after opening the doors you can get to flanks or hit enemy flanking units.
In theory the same tactics should work with chariots, but I wouldn't do that, if something would go wrong you finish on rough terrain, so it's better to keep chariots without MoK.
Have fun, let Khorne guide you.
Chosen Knights of Khorne are just plain nasty. Some dude on the US GW Site ranked them as Number 2 on the hard-hitters list, behind the Helblaster Volley Gun iirc. It ranked ahead of the Giant, the Flamce Cannon and the Hellcannon (actually, the Hellcannon may have been number 1). They can rack up almost 30 attacks on the charge and mean certain dismemberment for those silly enough to try and hold their charge.
I agree with Yarrek to an extent here. Screen them, but using Marauders is a bad idea imo as all it takes is a fast, nasty combat unit that crashes through them and the Knights have been charged, which, as the capped scholars at Altdorf would say, this is a bad thing. Warhounds can keep pace, making for a nasty pair.
