Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok, new temp list is out. I don't want to talk how bad it is, I want to concentrate on how to make it working.
We are now doomed to have at least 2 units of foot soldiers, so I would like to hear what are your ideas of how to use them effectivelly.
First thing, I was thinking of, was taking 2 small (10-12) units of marauders to hide mages in them. MoK doesn't give dispel dice anymore, so mages are now a must, even for Khorne.
My first question is would you use them with hand weapon only, with shields, or with shields and light armour? (I used all the flails for cav so it's not an option for me)
The other way to use them is to have a big block of them for the static CR. Again, would you use them with no upgrades, with shields, with shields and light armour, or with flails (for a big unit I would have to buy a fresh box, then I could have flails).
I am still not sure about using infantry for combat. With the best chaos units beeing cav, infantry usually stays behind. Warriors are great fighters, but they are just soooo sloooow... same with marauders. Unless I would have something to make the opponent wanting to start cc early (like hell cannon) he would be standing and waiting pouring magic, arrows and who knows what, straight on my army, ugh...
I could send my cav forward to catch him early, but I recon deviding an army is an easy way to loose a game, so the question still is: what to do with this bloody infantry?
Do you have any good ideas? Please share.
I have always used 2 x 25 with hand weapons and shield plus full command. 200 points for +5CR in a chaos army, yes please.
Just use them as before. Units of 20 or 25 (19/24 to have a Sorc in) with FC, HW/S/LA.
Small units for hiding Sorcs are just a waste, may aswell go for a full unit and get the ComRes too, make them dual purpose, not like theyre expensive lol.
I always took large blocks of mauraders. Warriors of chaos are just way too expensive to be used for generating combat res. Sure they could kill a bit better than marauders, and sure they are a little more durable, but they're still more than capable of losing a combat to empire spearmen simply due to combat res and the fact that they just can't get enough attacks. Thus, I would always take warriors in small units of 10 with halberds or just hw/shield and use them basically as flankers or support.
That being said, I don't have the new temp list yet... Anyone know if it's available on the gw site? So I'm not sure what the new warrior profile is, and whether or not they are now soulless killing machines, as certainly seems to be the trend with new armies. However, marauders are still very useful.
Light armor, HW, shield, cheap. Huzzah! Take large blocks of 25 or so and go nuts. They're great infantry, and nice and cheap too. WS4? yay. 4+ save? yay! I4? yay! Throw in an aspiring champion, (though i've heard they no longer exist... o.o;; ), and you've got a good all around infantry unit.

[...] So I burst into his office and exclaimed, quite frankly, "That's Numberwang." As I recall it, he cried.
Thanks for the answers.
Yes, I agree, I will have to make use of them and the only thing I could use them for is static combat res (19-24, SH, LA).
After mu last game (old book) when one of my warhound units started to run, causing more cheap units to run, I can see that hiding mages in marauder units would be a very bad idea, as any unit running towards them could make them run easyly.
