Welcome to Librarium Online!
well with the new minis for the new chaos knights on there way i was wondering what you guys thought
magic wepons (str5 magical attacks)
lances (str6 on charge)
im drifting towards lances as i usually get the charge.
but im fond of strenth 5 when being charged (whitch happens when elves are the main inhabitant of your store...with there tricksy elven steeds).
anouther problem is numbers should i get 1 unit of each? then have a exalted champion with lance leading(if lance is a option)?
simply put i am unable to get down to my local to discuss this til around 3 weeks after the release and i want to know the oppinion of like minded people.
i think i will favour the magic weapons! the strength boost will be good incase they get bogged down in combat! which i know isnt likely but you never know! plus charging etheral creatures and kicking their butts is guna be fun! pesky banshee's lol
Unfortunately, having seen the new models for the chaos knights look like a big steaming pile of poo.
The models are aesthetically displeasing...
Crap, that's completely off topic and the beginning of a rant.
I'd probably take the S5 magic weapon and pop an exalted champion in there with them for high strength shenannigans. They need the extra hittyness to ensure victory against horde infantry units.
Magic weapons for me :>
The magic weapons would be the superior choice in an all-comers list imo.
What if they have a magic lance?

food for thought may have to go magic wepons simply because of charge 16 dragon princes (i still win the combat with magic axes as i have shown many times with a str of 5) i seem to pass all the 3+ saves ever and my opponent seems to fail al the 4+ saves in the univerce. i once took them out and a lion charriot at the same time!!! (i admit i had an exsalted on demonic steed in there to) i play slanneshi chosen knights and my opponent crys (metiforicly) as his beloved units die good!!! and thats before my worriors arrive.
I think its really going to depend what army your up against, strength 5 and magical is great against say undead but what about dwarf iron breakers, 2+ save? here is a unit i would certainly want to flank charge with 5 knights + hero with lances + MoK reducing that 2+ to a 6+ the other great thing we have is that now our knights cause fear! thats alright, against you average unit you only need to kill 9 models to auto break them (shouldnt be hard with 16 WS5 S6 attacks + 10 WS S4 attacks + whatever you hero has
Really you knights shouldnt be getting bogged down into combat, they can have some much killing power its untrue. I think the other advantage is that it gives you something other than Warriors or chosen with great weapons to deal with cavalry, they are also better against Brets in prolonged combats (on a 6+ ward save)
Strength 4 is more than enough against most units anyways, i think its only if you get bogged into a unit of T4 high armour save your screwed (well unless you killed half the unit on the charge )
Careful about getting charged though S4 won't do much against T6 creatures like Dragons. S5 is a psychology thing - the Chaos Knights are simply very hard regardless of which combat phase they are in, and against most opponents, S5 and S6 isn't much of a difference.
And if you are charging Ironbreakers in the front, something has gone very wrong - charge them in the flank, and see their 3+ flank save crumble to 5+ (shields cannot be used to the flanks to give teh HW + shiled bonus)
I can think of one reason that Chaos knights might charge into the front of iron breakers, MoK, enough said really. I woudl point out that if you being charged by a lord on a dragon chances are your not going to be attacking back anyways its not going to matter what strength you are, if anything you going to want to challenge that thing to minimise the damage it can do.
