Hey all, I posted a bit back about what you kit your warriors and chosen with, and I got a pretty positive response. This time around, I am looking more for an idea of what you want your warriors/chosen to do in game. Do you use them to flank (obviously everone always wants to flank, but is that what you are specifically aiming for with these)? Do you use them as hard hitting chargers, or as solid anvils that can take a charge and come out on top?
This question arises because I just played my first warbands game with WoC (funny story, I played tomb kings, and at the end of the game, literally every model was dead, my horseman that managed to take down his tomb prince in a duel to the death was killed by the curse). Anyways, after the game, I was talking to someone else who had been playing a game, and they were saying it is probably a bad idea to equip your warriors with AHW/Shld (which is what I did), since they mathematically come out below using GWs or Halberds. My retort was that I would want great weapons on my chosen as a can opener, but I don't want to force my warriors into that role as well. I expect them to be an anti-block unit troop, so I want the extra attacks, as I feel 10-12 str 4 attacks will do a lot better than 5-6 str 5-6 attacks against large static CR units.
Am I looking at this all wrong, is it superior to use GW or Halberds even against these troops? I also need to figure out how this will work in the new editions, if chaos warriors do, in fact, come with 2A basic, it may be that GW/H are the better choice, and I need to start re-equipping my warriors right now. The other thing I was saying is that when the new book comes out, there will be units of ogres and trolls and dragon ogres, which should all fulfill the role of a high str canopener. Would it help me out to keep the warriors with AHW so that they can slice and dice with many many attacks?
I think your going the right way about things i play my warriors the same but i also play a chosen unit with great wepons... used in tandem they are amazeing the warriors with additional HW take down bacic rank and file easilly but struggle against say bretonian knights or swordmasters of hoeth for example. However the chosen do better against both units useing HW/shield against swordmasters (hiting on 4s wounding on 3s with a 4+ save vs there GWs which hit on 3s wound on 3s with a 6+ save) and GW against knights a (2+ becomes a megre 5+). You could argue that HW and shield is better (a 4+ against heavy chavalry on the charge) but GW are always my choice.
in short the chosen are more relieable as you can afford to hide behind shields without loseing to much effectiveness...
but warriors need more carefull useage a charge against a unit of ogres (if you get the charge) will end in desaster so you need to target softer units line them up against bulls not iron-guts (there for the chosen to deal with) or against spearmen rather than whight lions.
you need to put chosen on your roster before warriors simply because they are much better. however you will not encounter half the problems when the new book is out with all warriors being the equivelent of chosen...

If someone helps you REP them...
With the WD list @ 2000pts I have been running pretty much one 12 man unit of Chosen of Khorne w/ GW, and I have a 25 man Marauder block HW/Sh and a 12 man Marauder unit (Flails) to round out the Core. I also found that 20 Marauder Block, 12xChosen, and throw in 14 warriors w/ HW/Sh and take 2x exalteds to lead the marauder block and the sheild warriors. Both combos have won me a couple games although against range hvy armies I have yet to find a working setup for the core. Can't wait for marauder horsemen to be Core in the new book.
