Welcome to Librarium Online!
And let me say that Chosen are hands down the best infantry I've ever used. I think these would be our answer to Swordmasters. They can take the hits, save reasonably easily, and strike back with a vengeance. I played a game against my Daemons of Chaos army. Not much can take a Flesh Hound charge, take no wounds, and strike back to deal a fair bit of damage, but my unit of Chosen did.
The War Shrine is a great addition to the army. Especially if you give it the Mark of Tzeentch--3+ ward save, anyone?. Yes please. The abilities granted by the warshrine aren't too shabby either, but don't expect it to win you the game. It can grant some great things--such as the 4+ ward + stubborn, which I got on my mounted Marauders 4th turn--but it's not predictable.
Speaking of marauders, the mounted marauders are great. Putting flails on them is as cheap as on their infantry counterpart, and they can do some decent damage when used correctly.
Trolls. I like them now! I used the troll king as my general and I had a great time with him! Also, being able to take a bit of shooting and then regenerate to gain extra abilities isn't too shabby either. The Troll King's d6 vomit attacks are deadly. S5 no armour saves can really do some damage. Also, core Trolls are fun!
I'll post more about my experiences with the book as I play more games, but so far, this book looks promising. I'm quite excited.
No, I don't have any wool.
Did you pick up any weaknesses? I've seen the new book and it looks nasty. One of my friends is getting them and I'm wondering how to beat them.
Oh sure, there are definite weaknesses. The army is vulnerable to shooting because we don't have skirmishers/fliers to take out warmachines and/or lone mages.
Chosen are slow. They have to be used with finesse. Enemies can dance around them fairly easily.
Those are just a few weaknesses, and there are plenty more.
No, I don't have any wool.
How strong is the magic? Most of the other new armies have had their magic boosted alot, are chaos the same?
Just browsing through the book for 15 minutes and I could see some very nice combo for a magic heavy army. Looked like 2 nice magic missile bound spells and 2 different abilities that let you reroll a power die once per turn, with one of those able to stop a miscast. Another item that gives +1 casting to every sorc within 3"s.
I just can't wait to try out my Tzeentch Warshrine and slaneesh giant.
I've had my chance to read the book over the weekend as well.. the Chosens seems to be fairly strong on the paper, for 3pts more and they can stack a EotG gift on themselves before the game starts.. but what if you rolled poorly and only score some uselessness like the Fear/Terror/Ldr+1/Magic Resistance 3 (ok MR3 isnt useless but it could've gotten better gift). I could see the Chosen steamroll over other units if they roll luckily and gets the +1T or +1S, then a Chaos War Shrine stacking even more gifts on top. Are they really that worth it? For 3pts more than a regular Warrior who has the same stats except 1 less WS...
Anima Tactics - try it out!
Turns out the gift that let's you reroll any casting die costs like 10 pts more than a sorc lord can take, so its only usable by demon princes.
I'm still torn on the new WoC book. I am *so* relieved that I can still field my dragon ogres. Still, I miss my furies and daemonettes. The Slaaneshi magic lore got slightly worse imho, though overall our troops are much better. The new marauders are wonderfully cheap, and chaos warriors have a statline that actually reflects their cost.
Oh, and my Slaaneshi troops can flee from charges if they want to! Huzzah!
[...] So I burst into his office and exclaimed, quite frankly, "That's Numberwang." As I recall it, he cried.
i havent used the new book but I have read it. So far chaos knights and chosen are the two best units (or at least the 2 most improved) units of the game. I honestly don't see how giving the vchosen fear or terror is a bad thing, unless you are up against daemons or undead, then i can see the futility, but agaisnt empire and bretonnia (especially peasants) you will pretty much be unnaposed. Agaisnt other heavy/infatry (Swordmasters phoenix guard, White Lions, Greatswords, grave guard, temple guard) chosen can chew them up given the right mark or right blessing from the gaze of the gods.
I am confident also that chaos knights can take down any other units of heavy calvary, even ones like inner circle with templar grand master, errant and knights of the realm black knights, silver helms and cold one riders. Against more elite knights like dragon princes, questing and grail knights, and blood knights, it would be a tad closer but chaos knights would still come out on top. They were bad enough before, now one would feel sorry for the recipiants of a chaos knight charge.
(P.S. Can you stack Gaze of the gods? Such as a warshrine gifting chosen or a champion thats won a challenge, or rolling multiple times on the same unit?)
