...and they are wrong.
Our heroes are the answer to this, cost effective and multi-functional.
The following have occurred to me:
Aspiring champion with Great weapon and Book of Secrets.
Take Lore of Shadows and whatever spell he rolls is exchanged for the steed of shadows spell.
He hides in an infantry unit until in range, then pops off to kill artillery or small missile units.
Can also fly off and chop elven lords off their dragons.
He's so cheap it doesn't matter when he dies.
Sorcerer on Disk of Tzeentch with Bloodcurdling roar.
Happily floats around behind enemy lines being a flier and plinking away at elite regiments, artillery or lone wizards with both magic and a nifty ranged attack.
Take Golden eye for survivability.
These both seem decent budget options for messing things up a little.
Any more nice ideas floating around out there?
Every time I type Disk of Tzeentch I put a 'c' in 'disk' instead of an 's'.
Does it say under the magic item that you can exchange for the level 1 spell? If not you can't, as only wizards actually rolling for their spells are allowed.
The disk lord doesn't seem as good as he used to be in the old book as you don't get the massive 20+ powerdice you could in 6th.
When people say that we have no fliers, it mean we dont have any flying units such as DE Harpies, Daemon Furies, Vamp Bats etc. Units that are cheap and expendable, while it doesnt take up a valuable spot in the army. Surely any Hero with the book of secret can learn to ride on a cloud like Goku, but that also means your opponent will be well-awared of it since you still have to "announce" which spell you picked.
3+ Ward Save from the Golden Eye is a nefty idea but you wont like it when your 2W hero has to take the leads in the face from a Helblaster... or Repeater Bolt Throwers etc. Any Space Marine player would know their 3+ Power Armour save isnt the best in the galaxy
Here is my version of Daemon Prince that I run in one of my list:
Nurgle DP w/ Mantle & Fury of the Blood God.
-1 to hit in shooting, -D3 range strengh, MR(2), 4+ ward against spell.
.. a bit on the defensive side, but at least he can support my troops in combat and not worrying about getting shot to piece flying aorund. I'll have my exalted hero worry about my opponent's characters.
Anima Tactics - try it out!
A steed of slaanesh is almost as good, with the ability to hide, although you can be slowed by march blocking. it would also help with things like slow terror causers that push you away, and is even cheaper.
The only other ideaI have is to induct a Dog's of war character on a Pegasus or a cannon to blast them away instead...

If one gives a Tzeentch marked sorcerer the book of secrets, does he get his standard spells from the lore of Tzeentch, one spell from Fire/Death/Shadows, generate the extra power dice, gain a casting level and still use the D6+1 on the miscast table?
'cos that'd be cool.
Nothing about gaining an extra casting level. Other than that, that is the way it is worded. I don't remember how it is set up as I haven't had one in a while, but are the lower rolls on the miscast "better" or "worse"?
I wouls say the worse end, although 10-11 can be annoying...
2. Wiz dies and each model in B2b takes a Str 10 hit no saves
3/4. Wiz and each model in B2b takes a Str 6 hit no saves
5/6. opponent gets a free spell
opposed to =
12. Irrisistable force then the spell disappears
10/11. takes a Str.10 hit and loses a wizard level and that spell
8/9. Str. 4 hit, phase ends and RiP spells stop.
I've played games against the old Mortals where a Sorceror Lord got a 2 when he was bunkered in with a unit of Chosen Slaanesh Knights... that was unlikely but a choppy character could be in their with an expensive unit and is much more likely to fry everyone.
