Although they're supposedly coming out with the war altar in a second release (sometime in future), any ideas anyone has for modeling it? I'm leaning towards an altar with Mark of Tzeentch (3+ ward save) - any ideas?
The corpse cart is always a good start, and then you can add skulls, banners, and trophies do your desire.
That unit is in there so you can go nuts with conversions, s my ideas are.
1. something like the Lustria shrine creature for lizardmen.
2. a alter type thing on the back of a chariot.
3. a palanquin with a giant star carried by chaos warriors
Make it a mark of Tzeentch on wheels. Its simple and functional.

Okay here's what I think I'm going to go with, considering I found a cheap Empire War Altar on eBay.
Empire War Altar, minus the horses, big statue on back and no character.
Bits from the GW website - arcane book mounted on the altar, surrounded by candles (additional bits), with two banners on the back corners of the altar from the Chaos Knights sprue.
Having the altar pulled by a spawn.
Have to see if I have the room for it, but possibly adding 2 extra warriors on the altar with both hands on the pommels of their swords pointing down as guards.
Giving it the Mark of Tzeentch, so I think the magic theme to it will be fluffy.
The other idea I had was similar to the above one but thinking about making a large crystal obelisk (similar to a necron one found on a lot of necron bases) out of clear resin so it looks like an enchanted ice obelisk and mounting it on top of the altar base.
it can pretty much be anything you have laying around. What i did was take an extra orc chariot i wasnt using, ripped out the boars and riders. Stuck in a bunch of skulls, a 2nd edition chaos knights banner, and 2 horses. looks perfectly fine
If your giving it the mark of tzeentch then you could have it flying. Put it on supports and hide them with cotton wool painted wierd colours, so the altar is floating on a cloud of odd.
Possibly as the altar itself just a large oblong rock on some sort of basey thing (a basey thing big enough for a few robed acolytes with sharp knives of course) with a skeleton tied spreadeagled upon it.
The name refers to facial hair, not playing style.Originally Posted by A news vendor's stand, London, June 1940
Personaly I'm thinking of using 4 spair maruaders carying some platform with one of my spair wizards on it. Also have a bunch of skulls and bits from the empire sorc box to spice it up a bit.
Here's my tuppenth worth - the Empire War Alter is a great model, and it would be really easy to make Volkmar look like a Chaos magus or priest. You would need a couple of Chaos warhorse heads to replace the heads on the steeds, and teh Griffon statue can be replaced by a chaos Icon, or else perhaps, for a Khorne altar, you can put on an old Blood Thirster or Heroquest Gargoyle model? Or else a few of the "red" period plastic Chaos warriors painted as statues would also look cool....
