Welcome to Librarium Online!
I recently took up Chaos after doing Empire for a few years. Painting is actually fun now!
Before devoting myself to chaos I always liked Khorne(c'mon who wouldn't) over the other gods. Now that I'm actually going to play chaos Tzeentch interests me a lot more. So far I have a box of warriors that I'm currently working on and the Tzeentch sorcerer on the disk(I have always loved that model). My plan is to do an undivided army but I am slightly tempted to run an all Tzeentch army. For any of you that are experienced chaos players what problems will I run into and will the pros outweigh the cons if I decide to worship the lord of change?
The only mark that has a major disadvantage with the new rules is Khorne. They now have nothing to generate dispel dice. So yo have two choices, take Sorcerors which kinda goes against Khornes whole idea or you can risk going without it.
As for using Tzeentch, there are no real disadvantages, your just making the already hard units of Chaos, harders. Furthermore, their spells are pretty damn amazing.
A Tzeentch army would be reasonably strong, it still wont come close to a mixed mark army but with the ward saves for anything marked or improved ward saves (3+ on the War Shrine...) the army would be fairly resilient.
So it won't be as good as a mixed mark army? What units are better off with what marks? I was reading that Nurgle is the way to go with nights but what about warriors?
By the way, I am a completely friendly player. I like to keep a competetive army but can you guys give me the run down on how to stay away from a cheese army? Basically I'm looking for a competetive fluffy army.
Khorne Chosen is a pretty solid unit. Apart from the fact that it can be manipulated by the opponant, it can deal a hell of alot of damage.
With full command, front rank of five and Sword with shield: 16 attacks at strength 4 with 3+ armour
With full command, front rank of five and two hand weapons: 21 attacks at strength 4 with 4+ armour
With full command, front rank of five and great weapon: 16 attacks at strength 6 with 4+ armour
How 2+? You only get +1 fighting with hand weapon and shield according to my rulebook.
That's what I thought. 2+ armour in close combat for your core troops. It almost makes me want to cry with joy.2+ armour
So any other recommendations for Marked units?
4+ Chaos armor, 3+ with shield, 2+ in CC
Yeah, what he said
Stick a MoN on them and watch CC opponents struggle to kill your warriors.
I'd only really run warriors with MoT if I knew I was facing a shooty army and gave them the Standard of Shooting ward save (blasted? can't remember), and even then, I'd rather the knights had that set-up instead!
