Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was considering using a giant in my planned WOC army. I think that he may be a good addition along with some knights.
Give him the mark of nurgle and he might even make it to the enemy!!
Do people think a giant is a worthwhile investment?
I know he's maybe a bit random, but he could be awesome.
I voted yes but I'm honestly not sure if he is consistantly effective on the table. I'm possibly going to use one as I think that it would add a lot of fun to the game along with a decent flank holder. I'm considering having him on one side and a pair of spawns on the other.
he can be great though it isn't really a constant thing. I just wouldn't use them in battles smaller than 3000 points because they are quite expensive. a little too expensive. Though they are good at scaring the opponent or use it to support fights.
Make him scary and your opponent will concentrate everything on him to make him fall. This I don't mind as if they shoot the giant they aren't shooting something else.
Cannons will be his downfall, as will tooled up characters. Against regiments, as long as you can get him into the combat, it's all good.
Remember he fits into the 6" Movement bracket along with Ogres, Trolls, Hounds and Forsaken, so our army has units to keep good pace with him. He needn't slog it out all alone.
The only reason not to take a Giant is a lack of free Rare choices. The Slannesh one is absolutely fantastic. Try it.
If you do it seems the best way to go is with the mark of slaanesh or mark of nurgle. Personaly though I like the warshrine. Dosn't come with as much a point sink the giant dose and every game I've played with it has done a wonderful time buffing my troops. Also rember that a giant with ether of these marks will run about the same as 5 knighs with a mark of nurgle/tzeentch plus a muso and standard.
I cant see why anyone would use the giant when you have better options for rares. I find that if you want something tough then go all the way and get a shaggoth, the amour save let alone is worth it. Not to mention if you haven't ran two warshrines yet try it ...its crazy to stack 1 unit with two rolls from the gods.
I voted "sometimes" because it would really depend on the point cost. As a 40k Ork player I love random.. and the giant fits the bill on randomness.
Eldar Project Log
Saim-Hann Eldar: 5000 Points
I dont play Chaos yet, not sure how id vote if i played chaos already since there are other good rare choices.
Do play orc & goblins though, and its the best rare we got, in my opinion.
