Good evening all,
I was thinking on making a themed marauder army.
There are plenty of spots, going around, for the marauder type units.
Warhounds and orges.
Maybe a giant.
Marked lords/heroes, and that one special character.
Any suggestions, you wish to add, will be quite helpful to me.
Thanks in advance.
You could make it Wulfrik's host. I'm sure it could work well.
I would take wulfrik with a unit of great weapon/flail wielding 18 maruaders (6x3), and give them mark of khorne.
Would still only use him as a hero and take either a lord choice (daemon maybe with all the points you save on marauder units), or an exalted.
Also see a giant and spawns as useful in a marauder force. May still be worth taking a unit of warriors to represent your elite unit, maybe even just tooling up some marauder models and using warrior/chosen rules.
If you are going for a very thematic feel, I would definitly use Forsaken as berserkers.
If you also want a retinue of bodyguards for your lord that will stand out, you could always use a unit of chaos warriors or knights. The best way to make them look norse-like I have found, is to use marauder horsemen heads instead of the bulky chaos helm. On your knights, just put on 1 shoulderpad to make them look a bit less bulky, and it makes that marauder head stand out. I use the ones without helms for the knights.
If you need an idea of how it looks, I can post up a picture of the few I've done for a side project of mine.
A warshrine as a beargod altar would be very neat. In the same line of thought, armoured bears as ogres would be interesting as well.
If you field a giant, I would definitly make him look like either a Kraken or Sea Giant.
First of all, I love this idea!
If you're looking to start such an army, you could may be consider Crom the Conquerer. His rules are still valid(ish) and he'd be a nice lord choice. I posted a copy of the rules on the boards a few days back, ask if you can't find it.
Another thing - you're going to need magic defense. What about a shaman or two as casters/scroll caddies?
Trust in your core choices - love them, hate them, wish them dead to clear charges, but remember that come end they will pull off a miracle for you.
