Welcome to Librarium Online!
Just started up Fantasy again and decided to go with Warriors of Chaos. So, here I am scheming and planning my army out.
Thinking about my Exalted Hero, who will be the general of my army and later on upgraded to a Lord once I have reached the 2000 mark, I want him on a mount. A horse.
What are the pros and cons of the Daemonic Mount and the barded Chaos Steed? Which would you prefer?
Warhammer Fantasy: Warriors of Chaos, High Elves
Warhammer 40k: Eldar, Space Marines, Orks
Generally I go with the Chaos steed when building Chaos Lords/Heroes.
A) It's cheaper. Those points can go to adding more weapons and/or bodies.
Barded. Gives you +1 armor save over a Daemonic Mount.
C) Base size. There's some vague concerns regarding base size and so forth. They annoy me.
Though a Daemonic Mount is going to be faster and hit harder. Though, if you're sticking them in with other Knights, the speed is going to waste.
i put all my chaos sorcerers on "Steeds of Slaanesh" that way they could move 10" a movement phase and get around the battle field quickly, but this is just my idea...and like most of my idea's could go down in a blaze of glory...
I have a question kind of related to this tread. In the Warriors of Chaos book, on pg 81, they show the new "Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount" model, but the caption says "Exalted Hero on Chaos Steed." Would you use the same model for either a daemonic mount or a steed? They both look like a horse in a chaosy sort of way. Thanks all!
So to get an exalted hero on a chaos steed, you need to model one yourself?
The New Boss on Deamonic Steed's Steed, well its a steed and it IS barded (slightly) So You'd get away with it. but as they said you'd really better out it on a smaller base. Not that most people would care really.
The Deamonic Steed is More Killy where as the Chaos Steed is cheaper and gives you better armour.
How do you want your boss? To be a tank and be able to take a pounding? or be able to dish out a pounding?
Hmm, the Pros for each are:
Barded - +1 Armour, smaller base
Daemonic - +1 Movement, slightly better in combat, fear
IMO, the pts difference (nearly three times!) is too much for me to consider the Daemonic mount, considering that 2/4 marks ignore the fear anyway, the bigger base is nearly always a downside (there's 1 chaos gift that benefits from bigger bases) and the combat difference is near-negligible. I was considering getting the Daemonic model because it is cool, but saw the price (1.5 times the price of 5 Knights) and just went na....
I plan on taking the Nurgle Chaos lord on daemonic steed model and just sticking him on a cavalry base.
Unfortunately he is just about the only Lord on Daemonic steed that will fit on the smaller base. The only other option I can think of is to use a Knight of Chaos steed and replace the knight with the upper torso of a lord. Not sure which will fit best though.
As for Chaos Steed vs. Daemonic Steed, I vote chaos steed as well. The extra movement and fear doesn't really matter since any mounted lord will probably be with chaos knights (who move 7 inches themselves and already cause fear)
