I've been debating on what to use as a Chaos dragon (I'd rather hate to use gaulrauch) so far I've thought about the Carnosaur with wings, and a chaos knight riding it....I don't know what are yall doing?
if one really wanted to keep with the fluff, then galrauch really is your only option (as it specifically states in the army book that all chaos dragons are double headed). Either that or you could but an ordinary dragon and sculpt another head onto it.
If you just wanted a chaosy looking dragon, try the OaG wyvern, or zombie dragon prehaps?
Another option you might be able to explore for a chaos dragon would be the old Engrimm Von Horstmann model that used to be a special character a while back.
You will probably be pretty hard pressed to find one new and wrapped up as it has been out of print for some time I believe but as far as I know you used to be able to buy it piece by piece on the GW site. It was quite costly though, something around 60ish dollars or so to build it bit by bit, but it was a 2 headed dragon and more of the "older style" with a bit thicker body and not the ultra detailed skin that Galruch has.
I always thought it was one of the better looking special character models of its day, and I from what I remember of how the rider was mounted, you shouldn't need much converting to get a modern day lord or mounted character on it. I could be wrong on that though, as it has been years since I've actually held one.
Hope it helps
I really like the idea of a carnosaur with wings. I've always thought the carnosaur was one of the coolest models around, and making it into a dragon would be awesome. I'd definitely look into adding another head to the model, though, for fluff and gameplay reasons (breath weapons, etc).
No, I don't have any wool.
On the last page of the Bretonnian book, I believe, is a funky picture of a Carnadragon. Although Galrauch is a very nice model - why not use him?
I have used the High Elf dragon as a base myself. I then used a few chaos bits to turn it into a chaos dragon for one of my chaos lords Lorkan Ironheart. Despite the fact that fluff says a chaos dragon is supposed to have two heads this does not have to apply, remember its chaos after all, it could have as many heads as you wish.
Alternatively speaking if you are using a chaos character of Nurgle a zombie dragon would be perfect.
Basically life sucks, there is only war and you're probably gonna get eaten by Tyranids, have fun.
