Welcome to Librarium Online!
At the local store more people play WH: Fantasy than Warhammer 40K and i was thinking of trying out a small army.
A small Chaos army dedicated to Khorne seems fun.
One focussing fully on the guys in armor. I read in a WD that was perfectly feasable.
However to try it out i'd like:
1) A small army -> 1000 pts
2) Khorne dedicated / fluffy / elite
3) not too costly financially (hence small army)
A small army focussing around 1-2 Khorne Champions. 2 on foot or 1 on foot and 1 mounted + 2-3 units of heavy foot (Chaos Warriors) and one Chaos Knights seemed a good starting point but... is that even playable? I haven't gotten my hands on the army book yet, i'd need to order it to even see it. And it takes over a month to get things.
So i was wondering if anyone had some advise regarding what to start of with.
And wether i should better just look at something else army-wise.
Yes mate its do’ able. I've got one just like that (Although it's Undecided rather than khorne)
At 1000pts you wont get many units of full plate nastiness. Each warrior unit of about 12 models (units of 6 wide 2 deep are good) with the command units works out about 200 odd points. The unit of knights with command will be 250 - 300 and your characters will be around 150 - 200.
Go for 2 characters, one of foot and one mounted, a unit of knights (because the models are amazing and the rules are sick) and a few units of Foot slogging warriors and you should be sorted. As a tip though, add a few units of warhounds to your force. They're cheap and add some extra units to your army to prevent your warrior units being flanked, out manuvered and can hunt down cannon crews etc.

Thanks for the fast reply.
1x Khorne Lord on horsie
1x Khorne Lord with shield/axe (or axe/chainball)
2x Chaos Warriors
1x Chaos Knights
In the future a possible pack of doggies and another CW regiment.
I'd take two units of warriors, a unit of chosen, a unit of knights, and 1 exalted hero on juggy, pretty much unstopable armored core, with the chyosen though thatll be pushing the 1k points limit.
if you're gunna mount your khorne lord, definetly put him on a juggernaught, the MR and the 0+ save they end up having is godly
Hurtinator has it mate. Jugger is a must if you're doing a nice themed khorne army. Especially if he is your army general. Plus have you SEEN the model??? It's Awesome!!!
No worries about the snappy reply. I'm at work .......
Yeah the Juggy is cool but pricey moneywise especially for starting, same with chosen.
How many boxes of chosen would i need for a functional regiment? As i noticed few men in the box. Or do they usually have only 5 or so men?
There have been several suggestions regarding "Cheap-hammer" Chosen. The most cost efficient seems to be a combo of Knights and Warriors. Take a Warrior body, combine that with a Knight helmet and one of their "lances" (can represent either GWs or halberds), and you've got some fairly inexpensive (by comparison) Chosen, and they look pretty cool to boot.
Otherwise, you're looking at $35+ for 5 metal Chosen (with or without command). You CAN field 5 legally, but 10 would be better. Me? I hit up eBay. If you're able to balance the shipping costs with the potential overall savings, you can save yourself some coin.
To be honest 5 chosen with a character in there would kill enough to win a combat on their own. who needs Rank bonus when your getting 15 Ws6 str 6 attacks and then 5 attacks at str 7 from the Exalted chimp???
Yeah Chosen are pretty pricey but you only need a few. 10 maybe? 9 if you put a Character in there. (you could just use the Chosen Champion as an Exalted champ on foot if you wanted too.
Ok, if price is an issue you can always just go for a Choas character on Barded Steed.
If you bought say 2 packs of Knights you could build your Exalted character out of a plastic knight, build a knight unit and then make a unit of chaos warriors into chosen with all the cool Knight bits you have Left over.
As Dfred rightly said, Put some lances on warriors, and they become halberds/ great weapons, use the heads and shields and you're on to a winner.
