Thinking of using this combination of magic items on characters in my army for a tournament (most likely giving an exalted hero the black tongue and infernal puppet to a lv2 sorcerer), mostly as I'm sick of facing beardy tournament armies with overkill magic.
Seems to work quite well as you can use the black tongue to force a succesful casting roll into a miscast (amazing in its own right if its their lv4 casting and using loads of dice on a pretty important spell), and then using the infernal puppet to augment their miscast roll by D3. Could be potentially disastrous for magic heavy armies (especially armies like ogre kingdoms with pretty painful miscast tables), or even just for shutting down magic phases for not so magic heavy armies at important moments. Worst case scenario their magic phase just ends or something like that (which is still pretty sweet), best case scenario their 400pt odd level 4 wizard explodes.
Any thoughts? I'm a bit apprehensive on whether to use it as A: its a lot of pts of magic items and B: its a bit of a waste if I come up against armies with very little/no magic...but at the same time a lot of tourney armies do seem to be very magic heavy, and could be cheaper as a form of magic defense that having to invest in loads of wizards with dispel scrolls (being able to ruin even just one magic phase for the enemy gives me a much better chance of units making it into combat alive).
P.S: I'm assuming this would work on ogre kingdoms right? I know it wouldnt do anything to tomb kings as they can't miscast/don't have to make succesful casting rolls but I'm assuming it would work on ogres seeing as they do have to roll to cast spells and can miscast...
Yeah it'll work against ogres. But don't forget the person with the blacktongue takes a wound after using it.

Also don't forget that the Tongue is a "one use only" item. The combo is great, but it's a one-shot deal.
Yeah thats what I was kinda thinking, it is a lot of points for a one shot deal...I'm playing tzeentch so I may still take the infernal puppet but drop the black tounge as if any of my sorcerers get pandaemonium then that would work pretty nicely with the puppet...
Don't diminish its usefulness with the puppet though. WoC don't have particularly effective ways of sniping hidden casters in deathstar units like VC's in Grave Guard. Hell, given a good roll it can even kill Karios. With the MoN and Buboes you have excellent caster assassination combo that is threat from turn one.
And hell, if nothing else it can end a magic phase which is well worth its points regardless.

also, it doesn't convert a "successful" cast roll into a miscast, it converts an "unsuccessful" cast roll into a miscast.
against another WoC army, if that wizard has a book of secrets, hes pretty much instantly turned into a smouldering pair of boots with this combo haha, saw it happen last night, he wasn't too happy =P
