In the Spell Description for Cloying Quagmire, it says the enemy, if failed an initiative test, have to pass an armour save, and if they pass this, they die. What about models such as daemons that only have ward saves? Do they take the ward save instaed or do theyautomatically pass?
I'd say they automatically pass. They don't have any armour to trap them in the quagmire.

Yeah i had this problem when i was facing my mates deamons. As deamons don't wear armour the spell is pretty much useless.
However some deamons DO have armour, Juggernaughts of Khorne do and if they're mounted they get a 6+ save.
Blood crushers and Heralds of Khorne are the only units this spell can effect. The Herald may have high initiative, but if he did roll a 6, he'd have to fail his 0+ armour save, or just die
The other plus side is both units are quite expensive, and so worth killing, even with a slim chance. Just don't put too many dice into the spell I guess.
Palenquins of Nurgle give you a 6+ save due to being mounted (alright so the charnces are slim but still)
Yeah, just like with zombies (someone asked this before, with regard to zombies). If the unit has no armor save to speak of, the spell is useless.
