I was wondering how many of you all run a BSB in your games of 3K points or less. If so, what model do you use as your BSB and what actual magic banner do you put on them?
If it's a 3k points game I'll almost always run a exalted hero of tzeentch on a disc of tzeentch sporting banner of the gods, this way he can provide stubborn where ever I need it, whenever I need it as he has a 20" fly move and he causes terror to boot!
Chaos Warriors (2009) 16-4-9
Admitedly it is an expensive set-up but it is one that is quite versatile (I actually tried it and it did quite well suprisingly (Model was a pain to convert though ).
Alternatively having a BSB of Nurgle on foot with a shield is also a good choice, providing you can keep him protected he should do well enough.
Basically life sucks, there is only war and you're probably gonna get eaten by Tyranids, have fun.
Im running the Banner of the Gods on an Exalted Hero in a regiment of 20 Chaos Warriors all with the Mark of Khorne. As for the model i'm converting it from a Chaos Warrior with bits of Chaos Knights, followed by a wicked detailed paint job.
Though having him on a disc would indeed provide a superior level of maneuverability, I prefer to keep my BSB in a unit, usually footsloggers. All it takes is one run-in with a spell like Foot of Gork or a Dwarven Anvil of Doom (my regular opponents field both O&G and Dwarfs, amongst other things) and you'll think twice before parading your precious Exalted BSB around without a bodyguard. Magic banner means no additional magic items, which in turn means no GEoT, no Collar of Khorne, no Armor of Morrslieb ...
I use a Kordel Shorgaar model, in a unit of Slaanesh Warriors.
The Blessed of the Four
By the pricking of my thumbs,
Something wicked this way comes.
At 2250 I've been running him on a disc with banner of the gods and a flail and shield. 2+ armor save 6+ ward. Not too bad.

In the latest tournement I played i used a bsb with MoN with a shield and the crown of everlasting conquest.I placed him in a unit of 12 warriors MoN with shields and double handweapons. He did pretty well by both supporting the unit it was in with 5 stenght 5 attacks wich is always good and he supported the unit of 12 wariors next to it with his battle standart. At 190 points he might be expensive but very usefull.
As for the model i converted Harry the hammer by removing his left arm and replacing it by a tentacle (knd of like the new chaos lord on deamonic mount) wich was holding a banner wich I made out of the warriors banner and the marauder banner by gluing them together and making a smooth blend of the 2 with greeen stuff and sticking them on a pole.
hope this helped you
In any game about 2000 i use a BSB, generally instead of a Lord. And he's usualy got the Banner of the gods. That banner is just awesome, and it's saved my skin mroe than once. He's usually on foot though. I like him in the center looking cool and holding my units together than running around on his own getting jumped on by shades etc....
I take a cheap BSB.
Exalted on a steed of slaanesh with shield, flail and the warbanner. He comes in at 199 points, can still hide in units and can be almost anywhere he is needed fast and added extra combat rest to combats.
*As for the model. If you just use a hero model you can generally just swap a weapon hand over for a spare warrior standard arm and put whatever banner top you like on there. Alternativly, What i've done is use Chaos warrior legs and a Chaos knight torso and arms with the knight shield with the banner on. That makes a fairly impressive model.
