While attempting to come up with Daemon Prince list, I keep ending up swinging constantly between which mark (If any) I should end up putting on him. I ran him as Tzeentch marked a few times and when I got unlucky on my spell selection die it was brutal (Ending up without Pandemonium -or- Gate was the pinnacle of losing before I started.)
I have been -leaning- towards trying him unmarked (For versatility of Lore selection (Fire anyone!)) or Nurgle Marked. I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with trying out the DP with various marks/lores and there experiences therein, and or just helping me figure out theory crafting in terms of how to mark this lovely little caster death machine.
I tried him unmarked and went with fire against lizardmen. In hindsight I should have went with pit of shades, but the destructive power wasn't the same as tzeentch. I got firewall off on some saurus, but it didn't do too much. Irreistable firey blast did 12 hits against his carnisaur and killed the beast, but if that was gateway I'm sure I'd have killed the rider too.
I think the biggest reason why I'll stick with tzeentch is for the 4+ ward save, since that is his ONLY defense.
That choice depends on 2 things:
MoT is great because it makes his ward save better but MoN is great too because it protects him against shooting and the -1 ws is cc.
- What level is he going to be?
- if he is a level what lore do you want to have?
I always run mine with MoT and level 1 or level 4
At least level 1 because that extra DD is incredibly usefull
Tzeentch has got the most benefits to be honest, the +1 to cast ad the 1+ ward save has got to win it if you want a magic caster. If you want an all rounder though i'd go for Fire magic. Fire magic is very hurty and if you get the flaking sword of Rhuinn you've got yourself a combat monster. 6 attacks hitting on 2's at str8??? yeeeowch!
Mark of Khorne isn't brilliant. He's not allowed any weapons and 6 str 5 attacks isn't brilliant. If he gets challenged by a combat character he's had it. Plus with frenzy AND fly? you're not gonna be ale to keep him in control.
Tzeentch is also very good because most of the spells do not require line of sight. He can hide behind obstacle and cast his spell.
Tzeentch because of the ward and the help with casting although nurgle is tempting. If you keep him level1 get beasts with bears anger 8 strength 6 attacks and +1 toughness is absolutely SAVAGE when combined with nurgle. Although I prefer level 4 as he can destroy the enemy warmachines and archers. and terror bomb while casting . Slannesh is almost useless and Khorne makes him uncontrollable. So I use tzeentch or sometimes nurgle
Daemonic cheese-how? Well, you would need to start with daemonic milk, i guess...
Tzeentch seems like a no-brainer ... but the thought of unmarked with Fire lore for Sword of Rhuin makes me smile inside.
The Blessed of the Four
By the pricking of my thumbs,
Something wicked this way comes.
I had a slann with that spell kick my khorne lords but the other day, so yes, it could be quite nasty on a DP =P
Chaos Warriors (2009) 16-4-9
A large reason I am considering going unmarked for fire, is the ability for the DP to go toe to toe with anything if he gets Sword of Rhiun, and if he -doesn't- he still has a lot of hurt to fling around the board. I am nervous about him even taking on well equipped Heroes with just his baseline stats.
My current tzeentch DP avoids fighting characters like the plague.
