In my 2250 point Warriors of Chaos army im running 2 blocks of 25 Chaos Marauders. boths units have the Mark of Khorne, flails, musician and standard bearer. Is this a good set up for 2000 points?
What do other Generals run there Chaos Marauders as?
It is a good setup if you can support those units and use them correctly. I personally think you should combine them with ogres or chariot or anything fast enough to double charge the enemy. Any unit can be a good setup if you have the strategy to go with, but two units of 25 marauders do sound reasonable at 2250.
At 2250pts I would personally field two units: 25 Slaanesh Marauders with shield and musician and 15 Slaanesh Marauders with flail and musician. Both units are expendable and can accomplish several missions: add static CR to a fight, shield other unit flanks, sacrifice them to get a good counter charge or to trick an unwanted enemy away from my center.
Im probably going to field a unit of Ogres and maybe 2 Chariots (depends if they release plastic models). Is it important to give Marauders armor saves?
There's two trains of thought here.
Keep them cheap and leave them naked.
Or buy BOTH LA and shield. No point in only buying one, 6+ save sucks, atleast a 4+ save in combat is mildly respectable.
It all depends on if you have extra points laying around, or if you don't care that your marauders will die by the handful.
Pinkus is right. Either keep them cheap and naked, or equip them enough to do some damage.
Well equipped, a block of 25 marauders will certainly defeat any other army's lesser core units (goblins, peasants, spearmen), due to their access to a flail and MoK, and their WS4. They'll even do serious damage to medium elite units, especially on a charge (can't argue with 10 S5 attacks).
I'm running a 1000 points right now. So I prefer to keep them cheap. 10 marauders at 4 pts each gives me a core unit at 40 points! And it's a good meat shield.
The only trouble of running marauders with MoK is that they only have a charge range of 8" so if they get charged (depending on how your playing them) they wont get the bonus of their flails. Personally I prefer to run mine with GW's and MoK as they will still get 2 attacks but they strike last, ok thats not good but its S5 every round!! Also they only work out to be 5pts each its nothing really. Btw this is the only Khorne unit I use in my force but they are fun to use in small games as they do really annoy the opponent!!
Flails work in every first round, if you charge or not.
I like the idea of khorne on infantry. They have a 8" charge, so its hard to lure them around the battlefield and most often than not you want to charge anything that gets into range anyways.
I'll likely end up with one block of each, maybe 25 strong. One unit w/ great weapons and the MoK, the other with light armor, hw/s and probably the MoS. Depending on how the MoN discussion/argument pans out, a Nurgle unit of Marauders wouldn't be horrible (assuming the enemy defends at -1 WS), but Slaanesh seems the more obvious choice for a cheap tarpit to sit next to the Banner of the Gods.

A really nasty marauder setup is 25 with mark of nurgle and great weapons, add festus into the mix and that's a relatively cheap hard hitting unit with good combat res and basically a poor man's 5+ ward save/poisened attacks.
